In our state of selfishness by this nation’s greed, we’ve created an inability to accept that we have enough food. To sum up my point…..Here is our current state of affairs on food distribution and supply. Let’s take San Francisco of its 800,000ish residents.
800,000 residents – 250,000 homeless & below-poverty residents = + 550,000 housed residents
In those 550,000 we know 100,000 have a great deal of money and the rest have at least enough food to sustain themselves every year. NOTE: All resident homes have food stored, aka not being consumed. Food that are stored or have not been used or eaten is a factor of waste distribution.
NOW, let’s take the fact that we have about 2,000 food distribution buildings (markets, groceries stories, costco, etc) fully stocked and daily supplied by farmers all over the state and country.
NOw, please imagine for a second the food in restaurants. The food being bought in those restaurants are extras/bonuses to those who can afford going there. Now let’s look at the food bought for events like concerts, company/corporate gatherings, sports events, holidays, airline rides, etc. These are extra food supplies not unaccounted by the American public.
If the working class American in SF didn’t buy or eat for two days….the majority of the food supply not in residents in SF would feed the 250,000 homeless-BP residents for nearly 10-15years.
Can you get around the fact we have enough food…..and that we just don’t like to share.
