Yet when the message starts it says "first saved message", which would mean he'd already checked the message. If that's the case, why would he be acting so surprised?

Whats to say that he didnt start to listen to it then hung up. A voicemail box will auto save it even if you only listen to 1 or 2 secs of it. And being a person that listens to more vmail then average ( I work for verizon wireless c/s) I should know lol.....****pushes up test man glasses**** plus some people act "suprised" when doing shit in front of there friends (scenerio)
