They had a big sale at guitar center today and they had all kinds of shit I wanted to buy. They had the MPC 5000 for $2200 and an MV for $2000. I hella wanted to cop the MV but knew I would regret it when i had to pay it off lol.

I knew the most important thing I needed was some monitors so I went with the Mackie MP5s. I'm working in a reasonably small room so I will probably make good with them. Anyone have these? I just picked them up and never heard em or hooked them up. I've been fuckin with computer speakers for the longest so I'm sure I'm better off with these.

Post up how they sound to you. also what your mixes sound like from your studio to car stereo/boombox. are they what you hear is what you get?

Im shopping around myself, and am looking @ DynAudio/BlueSkyMedia or ADAM Audio.

I'm about to move my rig and set my shit up this weekend, i'll give an update. I'm planning on overhauling my hobbyist rig into something more respectable over the next year or so, one piece at a time. i think monitors was the most important step i could take into making that happen. Next is a new comp, Interface and an MV8800 or a MPC 2500 to ice it off. This is the most money I've spent on this stuff next to my 14000 i blew on recording school LMAO. I figure with all the money i've invested into this shit in school I have to at least make a valant effort to build a lab and try to at least get supplimentary income out of the whole deal

If there is a what you hear is what you get speaker let me know lol. These seem a little bottom heavy but so far so good. I'm surprised these little 5 inch speakers pack such a punch, i used to have a sub on my computer speakers and these are punchier. I like them though, i wish they had a little more crack on the high end though. There are ways to adjust that stuff in the back though havnt really messed with that stuff that much. I still have to move them to my place though, the room I'm in is a terrible environment to judge this stuff properly, too narrow of a room the left speaker is inches from the wall probably why I have so much bass.

I hear Mackies do have alot of bass, hope they translate well for you.

They say the Blue Sky Media are what you hear is what you get. George Lucas studios use there top of the line for doing there movies. and theres tons or reviews that say the same.

"I can't say enough good things about this monitor system... For under $500, you get a complete 2.1 system with powered subwoofer. I recently picked up a pair of these for the studio and completed a major label mix on them. The mix translated great when I took it out to the car and checked on my home stereo speakers. Now, don't get me wrong there are much better monitors on the market.... But, not in this price range! These are the only monitors that I can recommend for Hip Hop in this price range.. I'm using them everyday alongside my mains and I've come to count on these to get a great mix that translates well." Tony Belmont

Im going to buy a pair of DynAudio BM5P's. I heard a few great things about these from folks. They translate well for mixing & tracking.

I have Event 20/20 Passives and those translate real bad, find myself making alot of adjustments to get the track to sound good in a car stereo/boombox. Sound clean as hell in studio, but not so great out. Im hoping these BM5's will do the trick.

yeah they use the blue skys at 17 hertz that subwoofer got some BASS. them monitors slap. As far as the high end I'm not sure its as accurate as normal monitors but they do sound pretty good I mean if u learn how to use it you can get a nice mix on any monitor. I would buy those because of the sub - the sub is very clear you can get a nice mix on your dums/bass on them. Just make sure your not in an apartment or nothing because the bass is as loud as a car.

personally I think my monitors do the trick Its not what you got its how you use it - i now have the updated bx8a's they are very clear and what you hear is what you get pretty much. translate almost perfectly - sometimes its hard to hear some things on the low end but once you get used to that then you know what to listen for.

I heard the Mackies are very nice i would like to hear the HR824 i heard those are the shit.

I'm putting together my first beat with these bad boys, its been awhile since i've burned anything to disk and got the chance to hear what my stuff sounds like in other places. So far so good though I'm liking the sound of them the more I listen to them. money well spent, it was either these, the m-audios or KRK rockets in my price range

Now I'm debating on my next step here whether to get a new computer or get an MPC or an MV and do my beats in the box and only use the computer for recording and mixing. I'm kinda tired of using reason all the time and having to tweak the hell out the sounds i have to make them sound the way i want them too, IDK I guess you have to do that with anything you have and an MPC will just have me buying more stuff anyways. If I get a sampler I'll be starting off sampling reason sounds into the mutherfucker anyways lol.
