the people who first got me into japanese animation and films forced me to watch them w/ Subtitles and not dubs even though i didnt understand why at first.
So thats how i first got accustomed to it. and now I fully understand why they didnt let me waste my time with dubs. Even though you have to use a couple seconds of reading the text, its well worth it once you get used to it and can analyze it faster. The emotion and the true meanings of words and situations are lost and scrambled a lot of the time when shitty American voice actors try and replicate what the characters are expressing. even tho you cant understand japanese, the emotion and the tone of it still come through and it ends up having more meaning in the end, and just feels more complete.
i watched a lot of dubs too just to make sure i realized the differences (and to see if my friends were right... they were), and most of the time it didnt feel very serious at all and i wasnt as interested. EXCEPT for the dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion, they must have spent a shitload of money and time on the dubs because it came out perfect. but thats like the only example
Get used to subtitles and i promise... i guarantee you, that youll be feelin the shows more overall.
Shit.. too much sidetracking.. i forgot the topic ... but damn, I still havent seen Advent Children and i dont know why, so ill have to get that asap. i hear the animation effects are fucking unreal and the movie is tons of times better than the other FF7 (spirit within) was.
