Z Gorres is in a Coma After Melendez Win in Las Vegas
By Rick Reeno
BoxingScene.com has been advised that Filipino bantamweight star Z Gorres (30-2-2, 15 KOs) was rushed to UMC Hospital in Las Vegas after winning a ten round decision over Luis Melendez (26-4-1, 21 KOs) at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Bay. Gorres was knocked down in the final round and survived to the bell. Following the end of the fight, he began to feel faint and collapsed. He was taken out of the ring on a stretcher.
BoxingScene was contacted from the hospital by a member of Team Gorres. I was advised that Gorres suffered a subdural hematoma and had to undergo emergency surgery. Dr. Micheal Seiff had to remove a part of Gorres' skull to relieve the swelling of the brain. Gorres was placed in a medically induced coma and is scheduled to have further tests over the weekend.
