Fedor Emelianenko has been released from his contract by Strikeforce.

That's the big news making the rounds after UFC President Dana White dropped the bomb following today's UFC 133 pre-fight press conference.

There's just one problem with that -- Fedor's contract isn't with Strikeforce, it's with Showtime.

This according to M-1 Global representative Evgeni Kogan, who spilled the beans to MMANation.com earlier today. Whether his prized client is fighting under the Zuffa umbrella or not, it doesn't affect the status of his contract with the premium cable channel.

And there are still plenty of options available for "The Last Emperor." Here's the word from Kogan:

Star-divide

"Fedor's contract is with Showtime. He remains a Showtime fighter, on a network which has been amazing to Fedor and the team. Strikeforce is not the only MMA promotion on Showtime. So there are a number of options for Fedor which will be looked at. And one of those is to work with the other MMA promotion currently on Showtime."

The other promotion that currently has a deal in place with Showtime is the very same organization Fedor has a minority ownership stake in -- M-1 Global.

Does that mean we'll be seeing Emelianenko back on Showtime in the near future? It most certainly sounds like a possibility, and the best one at that.

But is there enough quality competition available to draw viewers? Or has the former Pride king lost all his credibility in the world of mixed martial arts.

Wow, that sucks but it's pretty much an unwritten rule that if you lose 3 fights in a row, Zuffa will release you. Really would love to see him fight in the UFC, I don't think he'd do too well against top competition, but he still puts on exciting fights.

Before anybody starts crying saying "WAAAAA! Fuck Zuffa! Fuck Dana White!", you have to realize that Fedor has lost 3 fights in a row, so it's his own fault.

I doubt it was because of 3 losses in a row. It's Fedor, as much as Dana hates not striking a deal or dealing with the people around him, he knows he could sell seats.. especially if he wanted to go to the UFC. I think it has to do with more with UFC/Dana not wanting to deal with all these middlemen/management, that get in the way between UFC and the fighter. Like M-1 and Golden Glory with Overeem.

um its because hes lost 3 in a row and making like 1.5 mil a fight. the hardcore fans like him but only selling like 8k tickets for an event headlined by him doesnt make him worth the money business wise

lol the top quote is basically making it seem like Fedor is some hot commodity that this "other" promotion is after then the reporter just shits all over it.

Hopefully Fedor doesn't go bankrupt another promotion with his insane asking price. I'm looking at you OneFC.

Fedor vs. Reem for the Dream title.
I wish, never gonna happen though. M-1 and Golden Glory go at it in the media like crazy. Bas Boon claims Vadim is responsible for him losing a few hundred thousand dollars back in 2003 with a Japan NYE show deal with Fedor and basically getting him blackballed by Pride. Reem claims Fedor has been ducking him for years and shits on M-1 every chance he gets. Sergei has been spreading the Aleks hepatitis rumors around like crazy, saying Aleks is so diseased no promotion will let him fight.

M-1 and Golden Glory will never let go of all of their bullshit to let some good fights happen.

Nah, it's fuck M-1 Global. Them fools are clowns. They all should of rolled with the Brock Lesnar fight back when it made sense for Fedor to go to the UFC. I don't blame Dana White for not wanting to do business with them.
