The Mob Figaz album came out a few years ago. Since then we haven’t heard too much from you all other than featuring on other people’s albums. I heard you’re working on a solo album.
I got my new album comin out called FedX 50 States. It’s my first solo album. I’m almost finished with it. I got a few features on it. I got Yuk, I got C-Bo, Keak Da Sneak, Mob Figaz. I’m keepin it simple and plain. Roblo on the beats, plus a couple other cats like Rick Rock. I’m gonna drop the album in May.
I heard you got shot recently. What happened?
Just some street business, basically what it is. I don’t wanna put it all the way out there like that. I got shot in the head, but I’m alright, I’m back moving.
When was that?
In November of last year. I was out talkin to a few people, just handling some business, then the situation happened. It happened in Vallejo. I was in the hospital for a couple of months.
Did you ever think you wouldn’t make it? Being shot in the head is serious.
I knew I was gonna come through with it. Most definitely. You gotta fight for it. I’m immortal.
Why didn’t you come up with a solo album all this time?
I’m just tryin to put my album out the right way. It want it to be a big album, not no regular album. I need the whole nine yards. So I’m just waitin for the right distribution and everything.
How did you end up in Pittsburg?
I lived all over the Bay Area. My family moved out there when I was about 11 or 12 years old.
Did you go to school with the other members of Mob Figaz?
I went to school with a couple of them. That’s how I met ‘em. I knew Jacka back when I was in Richmond. He moved out here too.
Were you rapping solo first or how did the group come together?
Me and Jacka was a group. We had a song on a compilation. We knew everybody else, everybody was all doin music. Here and there we would see each other, at events and everything. We was hangin with each other. Then we ran into C-Bo, so we just formed our group.
How did the name come about?
Mob Figaz. We was a mob anyway. We just worked from there, put the whole organization together.
When you first moved out to Pittsburg was there a lot of rap going on there?
Not really. It was one dude, Jerome, he had an album. Then Land of da Lost was doing it in Concord. They was on the same compilation me and Jacka was on. The compilation was called Point Blank Range, Sacsin.
What’s been going on with you since the time you put out the Mob Figaz album?
I been travelling, handlin business. I been really state to state, tryin to put my album together right. Still workin on this Mob Figaz thing. We have a lotta things goin on right now. We got our label, Mob Figaz, LLC. It belongs to all of us.
What’s up with AP.9?
AP.9 is good. He was here yesterday. He lives in Las Vegas now. He’s just getting his album together, workin on this Mob Figaz album.
Why aren’t you working with C-Bo anymore?
We still deal with C-Bo though. It’s just that he’s in jail right now, so we just handlin our business till he get back on the street. Everything’s good now.
Are you working with Thizz Entertainment, Mac Dre’s label?
Most definitely. It’s the mob, we all involved. It’s a real mob, baby. I’m gonna do an album with Thizz. I’m probably gonna do a joint venture with them for my new album.
Did you know Mac Dre pretty well?
I knew him, that was my guy. We worked together. I was around him every other day.
Where do you live now?
I’m in Oakland.
Why do you do music? Is it just a way to make money or something you love to do?
I love to do it. I been writin and doin this music since I was 8-9 years old. I’m just tryin to put it together. I been makin songs on beat machines and computers. I don’t just rap, I make beats too. I know how to do everything now. I love music. I’m from the streets. Music was always around me. Music was my thing. I like hearin music, so I always wanted to produce music myself. That’s how I got started.
Was there a lotta music happening in your family?
Definitely. My uncle, he’s an actor. Then my brother, Marcel Diallo. He’s got a studio and do beats. He was in the Source Magazine and everything. He’s into Hip Hop, Rap, bands and all that.
Do you listen to all different types of music or just Rap?
I’m into everything. I’m into it all. Alternative, Jamaican, Jazz, Blues, Dancehall most definitely. I love music. In different countries people express themselves through their music. You gotta love it. There’s so many different ways to make music. In America we speak English, but there’s a million different ways to do it. People grow up differently, it’s different ways of expressing yourself. I like all music. I’d like to travel to different countries and check out what they’re doing with music. I’d like to put some of that on my album.
How did you get your name?
People gave me that name cause of the way I move. I’m everywhere, I’m state to state.
Now after getting shot, you’re all recovered and feeling fine?
I’m good. I went through some things, but I’m better now. I’m better than better. I’m better than I was before I got shot.
