Ok, I just started buying equipment. I have an Akai MPC 2000XL (fully loaded), an Akai DPS12, Tascam DA-20MKII , and Shure SM58. I was just wondering what all you guys work with. Or are planing on getting. Basicly I'm looking for ideas on what I should buy next. I know I need a better mic but, other then that what do you think? Thanx...

Just make sure that whatever piece of gear you buy next is actually useful to you. And LEARN HOW TO USE IT! Way too many beginners buy gear and expect the gear to do all the work for them. Don't be another one of those people that buys a Korg Triton and never learns how to program the synth-engine or doesn't know how to play keys.

how is your room where you have your equipment set up? room treatment is REQUIRED. some time of aurelex foam or something.

a nice condenser like a rode or akg will help. so will an external pre.

a GOOD pair of MONITORS are needed. alesis, event, krk or jbl.

by the way you havent said what type of music you are doing. that would be helpful. keep in mind that sick wid it told you something very valuable.

please take that advice.

:H:

ps look at your setup and look at what you do or dont NEED! not what you want but what you NEED.

I didn't mean to sound like I thought that was bad advice. I agree with what was said. I was just looking for a different type of answer. I'm currently in the process of writing a business plan. I was just trying to figure out the cost for equipment. Thanx for all the replies...
