30% out of 1,000 participants isn't much to herald.

Out of 83 million people, it's almost something to scoff at.

Die Zeit - anyone every checked out their political coverage?

Hmm, all I will say is this: make sure the news sources you frequent aren't dressing up events and opinion polls with their ideological nonsense, CNN and Die Zeit have both been known to do that.

What is accurate if it is done right (that's logically perplexing)? Extrapolating statistics? Come on, 30% of 1,000 people is nothing in a population of 83 million people. That doesn't give an accurate consensus either way.

And my reasoning behind pointing out CNN's and Die Zeit's obvious ideological partisanship was for this THREAD only...it involved a CNN article. As far as FOXNews, MSNBC, NYTimes being all the same, unless you mean, all the same in the fact that they "influence mainstream opinion via their mass media presence", yes, that is true - them being the same, politically/ideologically, well, I believe "that" is demonstrable.

The NY Times has lost their credibility in journalistic circles (Jayson Blair sealed their fate, as well as Howell Raines, who was recently replaced - a tad late, you think?). As has the BBC. People want objective news, not blind partisanship - for either side.

nefar559,

No offense, but “sociologists do this type of stuff all the time” – got any examples of them making such a bold statement out of such a ridiculously small percentage of an aggregate population (remember, that is 300 people that said “yes” out of 83 million)? What a hackneyed answer.

Yes, if you haven’t noticed, the NY Times has lost their credibility, at least, according to any discerning individual. Oh, by the way, USA Today is the most widely read news(paper) publication in the US.

No offense, but I could probably eviscerate any argument you have to the otherwise.

hmmm, ask anyone what newpaper would they read for national, and international news ... it would be nytime....from what i heard USAToday lacks a lot of detail and depth .... i know what happen with the reporters ... but i dont think that would have much an effect.... plagiarism scandal didn't effect credibility in my opinion.
