PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. (SI.com) -- Kansas State quarterback Ell Roberson was accused Thursday of sexually assaulting a woman at the team hotel, and his status for the Fiesta Bowl may not be determined until game time.
Kansas State sports information director Garry Bowman said coach Bill Snyder would meet with athletic director Tim Weiser and school president Jon Wefald on Thursday night to discuss the issue, but said a decision likely will not be made until late Friday.
Roberson told police he had consensual sex with the 22-year-old woman, who is a Kansas State alumna and acquaintance of the quarterback, Paradise Valley police Lt. Ron Warner said.
Roberson was "very cooperative" with police and was released from custody around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Warner said.
Neither the woman nor Roberson were staying in the room where they had sex at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, Warner said.
Weiser said it would be up to coach Bill Snyder whether Roberson plays Friday night against Ohio State.
"We are dealing with partial information," Weiser said. "To identify an individual, we think, is unfair. But we respect the legal system and the decision they made."
The woman told police she was assaulted between 3-3:30 a.m. The investigation began when the hotel's security office called police at 4:30 a.m. The players had an 11 p.m. curfew on Wednesday.
Medical tests were conducted but results were not expected until next week, Warner said.
A report will then be submitted to the Maricopa County attorney's office to determine if there is sufficient evidence to file charges, Warner said.
Roberson was not with Kansas State players at a pep rally Thursday afternoon, but rejoined the team for a 4 p.m. walkthrough.
The senior from Baytown, Texas, needs 57 yards rushing to become the third player in NCAA Division I history to rush for 1,000 yards and pass for 2,000 in a season.
I wonder if he will play, if he dont, im sure K-State will get ran even though Ohio State isnt all that good anyhow.....K-State did horrible earlier this year when Roberson was hurt......thats too bad though considering he is a senior and all, needs to leave his hands off those broads IF ITS TRUE.....the girl I used to live with went to high school with him, he was a few fews younger then she was but I told her about this and she said that his brother teaches at the school or some shit and got caught up for sexual assault or some shit like that before also
K-States coach is a pretty big on discipline so I am thinking he probably wont play, Synder prides himself on being tuff about that kinda shit, he violated team curfew at the same time so I look for some type of punishment regardless....I could see them not doing anything for that assault shit yet because it is just an accusation so far and anyone can make an accusation
