Has anyone heard of or tried these things? They are an alternative way of getting a nicotine fix without all the other shit that cigarettes provide, like smoke and all its shitty chemicals. It is similar to the patch or nictonei gum in that is in an alternative to smoking, but is not necessarily always marketed as a way of quitting (although it seems many sites do claim this).

Two people in my office have tried them and love them. They even "smoke" at their desks.

One of the advantages to this method is that you get the actual motion of a cigarette, which i believe is a major underlying factor of smoking addiction (when i quit years ago, used a straw to simulate a cigarette).

When I still smoked cigarettes it seemed like I was more addicted to having the smoke in my lungs than the actual nicotine itself. Whatever floats your boat though, I've been seeing a lot more people quit smoking lately though. Props to anyone who can kick the habit.

edit- going on 2 years now without a cig.

honestly, i am lightweight scared to, cause these fucking things have been part of my life for the better half of 25 years

.
I can see the same thing with my woman...its become such a huge part of her life, that they are almost like a security blanket: when things are bad, she turns to them like an old friend. Except friends aren't supposed to kill you.

Heard about it but never tried. Last time I read about it I think it was last year they were several hundreds of dollars, so pretty expensive. I'll have to look into to see if my insurance would cover this. I tried the pills not long ago and they actually did work, I got down to one smoke a day, however after a while the side effects of the pills started fucking with me and gave me anxiety and weird/fucked up sleep, so I quit the pills and now I'm back to smoking like I was before.

I bought one and it just didn't satisfy my fix but thats just me. My friend just got one and he had a higher dosage of nicotine in the cartridges than the ones I was using and he says it works for him.

I heard the FUCK out of that, Shea. I quit for a year and 8 months...got back with my ex who smoked like a fuckin' chimney, lived with her and she smoked in the house, so I started again. Left her punk ass, now I'm trying to kick and it's harder than the first time.

I saw this dude at a Kiosk in Valley Fair smoking those e-cigs and started laughing my ass off. While it's a great idea, it looked pretty damn ridiculous. But hey, I may go that route. Tried the patch (small dose), and the shit gave me hot flashes. The gum won't work, because I'm not so much addicted to the nicotine, but I'm addicted to the actual process of smoking a cigarette. If I keep myself busy, I don't even think about smoking. Once I'm bored, it's over. I went to LA last month for 5 days and didn't smoke once...came back and bought a pack cause I was bored as fuck.

yea i think for me more than anything its the feeling of inhaling and exhaling real smoke, ya know that fullness you get in your lungs. Sometimes a joint or a bongload can help get me through a nic fit when I go on a two or three week smoking hiatus.

In the end tho ya, smoking cigs sucks. They're way to expensive now for me to smoke like I used to. Gone are the days of buying a 40 and a pack of smokes for 5 bucks. ahhhh the golden years...

man all this talk about cigarettes makes me want to smoke.

ha ha ha, just playin. But no seriously, it does.

I quit smoking when I was 17. I was dating a clean girl, and after coughing up this caramel looking thing into my boys sink one morning that wouldn't leave the basin until like 3 weeks later. I was off for about 22 months until I became addicted to vicodin and oxycontins, at which point in time I picked up the nicotine habit again to compensate for the opiate addiction.

I quit again about 8 months later when I moved down to FL to work for Disney. I didn't smoke until two weeks before I got back on the plane to Detroit, sort of because in my final two weeks at Disney World it was nothing but a big ass party and I was drinking a lot.

Right now I smoke about 3 cigarettes a day. I'm thinking my life is just too stressful to go through the additional stress of recovering from the addiction completely. My tips are this though:

1) WEAN yourself off of them, thats how I quit both times. go from 10 cigarettes a day down to about 7 or 6 in the first week, and over the course of the next three weeks drop your cig count by one each week. Make it so you only smoke about 3 a day, then down to two a day and then one a day. Once you get to that one a day period, your lungs aren't very happy when you light it up. Trust me. Just like anything else you're trying to change, it has to be a transition, not just crazy cold turkey (you'll be more apt to pick up the habit harder the next time)

2) Cardio training. Whenever I'm on the basketball court is when I think "fuck, I need to quit smoking!" after we got into the third or fourth game. So I just played a lot of ball, ran the court a lot and was coughing/spitting up phlegm all over the grass for a few weeks. But it helped, a lot. It helps to heal your lungs and gets you some fresh air. Do your cardio outside though, not in the gym.

3) Lil bit of weed. I kept a one hitter packed that I'd take 2-4 hits from usually around twice a day. This isn't good for many people because a cigarette after weed is like a religious right in some sense. But it helped for me because I could still get a lil bit of smoke in my lungs and fulfill that desire even though I had been off cigarettes for a few days.

Of course any nicotine you're getting that isn't from smoking is better than actually smoking, so if these can aid you in kicking the habit go right ahead, just remember that the cardiovascular exercises played a BIG role in my motivation to stay away from the squares.

The bottom line though is its cognitive. You have to WANT to quit, not just talk about wanting to quit. You gotta feel it, not just speak it.

I am not going to lie. I quit smoking cigarettes with bammer weed joints. I would buy like a zip of some halfway decent shit and just smoke that instead of a cigarette. It sounds crazy because weed would make me want to smoke a cigarette before I quit, but for some reason that worked for me. Whats funny is with how much a pack is its probably cheaper to get some bammer. lol...

i think a good way to cut down on smoking if you smoke excessively is to only smoke at certain times. like smoke 1 cigarette at 1pm 1 cigarette at 5pm and like 1 at 9pm

smoking 3 cigs a day is way better than smoking 20

i actually don't buy packs anymore. i just buy singles and that way the most i smoke is like4-5 cigs per day. I'd like to quit entirely but until then i try to not smoke excessively. but i do have my bad days where i smoke excessively.

this is the same thing I made a thread about a while back

never tried it

I quit smoking though... I occasiaonly have one when I'm drunk... but that's it... I used to smoke 1/2 - 1 pack a day

I just stopped... that was it

actually getting in the gym was my motivation

any time I worked out I'd be breathing heavy and chest would hurt... and I hella wanted to get in shape... so that was it
