Thieves steal past Heat guard, take car rimsBY KATHLEEN [email protected]
Dwyane Wade is a whiz at navigating the court and making his way to the rim.
But early Thursday, the wheels were turned on the Miami Heat guard, when thieves made off with his tires and rims, valued at more than $20,000.
Left behind on bricks: Wade's black 2006 Dodge Charger and 2006 Infinity QX56 SUV -- both of which had their alarms activated when the thieves set to work.
They cut through a chain link fence to get onto Wade's property in the 9300 block of Southwest 59th Place in Pinecrest. It happened between 3:45 and 4:25 a.m., the Pinecrest police report said, but the theft wasn't reported until 8:11 a.m.
In the driveway, police said, the burglars opened the unlocked Dodge and helped themselves to the lug nut key, which is used to take the wheels off.
They stole one set of chrome and another set of black rims, and all eight tires.
Wade, 24, and his wife, Siohvaughn, 24, reported the theft. At least two sergeants, five officers and two crime scene technicians swarmed the scene looking for a man in blue, the report said.
Pinecrest Police Chief John R. Hohensee would not comment on specifics.
''The most important thing is we identify who is responsible,'' he said.
Wade, who recently recovered from a wrist injury, has scored at least 40 points five times. In February, he averaged 29.8 points -- the highest for any Heat player in any month in franchise history.
Phone calls to the Wades were not returned Friday.
