i just got a burner and i was wondering what is the best progam for

burning an exact clone of a dvd, like chapters and menus and all that...

also what is the best progam to rip just segments of dvds, in dvd quality(like certain chapters or other stuff) to my hard drive so i can edit it

also what progam is the best for editing stuff like music videos, i mean fade ins and fade outs stuff like that

also i have heard they have shit on the dvds now that blocks you from burning them (macrovision)? what progam gets around this

any help would be greatly appriciated

Do you use DVD-R or DVD+R? What's the difference?????

I don't know the technical difference. Some burners only like one kind over the other. I use -R's because that's what i started with and my burner works good with them. When you buy the burner it should say DVD-R or DVD+R burning compatable.

You need dual layer DVD's if you don't want to compress a movie.

I don't want to spend the high cost per disc to burn dual layer (my burner is also dual layer).

So i compress them and save money.

Some things like TV shows (OZ, Sopranos, etc) i don't really care about super high quality so i compress them at like 60-70% to fit as many episodes on one disc as possible.

Where as a quality movie that i want full quality picture i compress as little as possible. Usually that means removing all the menues and special features and just putting the movie on there.

I also do things like remove the sub-titles on movies that are in english already with no foreign language in the film.

I also remove some of the different sound choices. Spanish, French, 2 Channel and usually just go with the 5.1 sound since it plays the same on a 2 channel TV but if i ever watch it with surround i want the good sound.

** discs like the sopranos that you need the menue to access specific episodes i raise the compression settings on the meues and remove all sound to save space for the actual episodes

I also cut out most special features because i really don't care about a director comentary or some bogus additional take.

* Tip for DVD shrink

I was having trouble when DVD shrink would burn the DVD for me after compressing the files.

So what i do now is set up DVD shrink to compress the files and burn the disc, but don't put a disc in the burner.

It will then compress all the files and save them to a folder you designate, but stop because you don't have a DVD in the burner. Then i cancel the burn. Go to Nero and open up the files from the folder they were saved in and burn with Nero instead of DVD shrink.

I went through about 10-20 half burned DVD's, that i had to chuck and re-burn, before i started doing it this way. Haven't had a problem since.

^^^man good looking out on that info....

im still confused though on this aspect

what is the absolute easiest way to make just an exact clone of a dvd...just for begginers...can i just pop a dvd in the rom drive and record it on the fly?? if so what progam is the best? does nero do this??

ima just brun what i rented (sopranos season 5) then slowly start to experiment with what your talking about

also

is there a good progam for ripping music vids off dvd in hella good quality with no pixels?? or is that what dvd shrink does??

one more thing

after i do rip the music video from the dvd what progam can i get that will allow me to edit it like add fade ins and fades outs on the audio and video end??

much love for the info so far

Dvd Shrink~Re Author the disc xtract "MAIN MOVIE" as an ISO image and burn the ISO image with Alcohol120... Thats what I do!!!

However if you want to burn all menu's and extra features use DVDXCOPY.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THAT IS IF THE ORIGINAL DVD IS BIGGER THAN 4.7 GIGS YOU WILL LOSE PICTURE QUALITY UNLESS YOU ARE USING A DUAL LAYER DVD BURNER WITH A DUAL LAYER DISC...
