DUI CHECKPOINTS PLANNED: Police plan to conduct drunken driving checkpoints this weekend in Pittsburg and Concord to check for sobriety and valid driver's licenses, police said.
In Pittsburg, the checkpoint will affect motorists driving eastbound in the 600 block of West 10th Street from 8 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday, said Pittsburg police Lt. Brian
Addington.
In Concord, a checkpoint will be held from 9 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday on Concord Avenue near Bonifacio Street.
The checkpoints are being held in accordance with grants from the state Office of Traffic Safety. Checkpoints, saturation patrols and other similar operations performed throughout the county are part of a statewide campaign to reduce drunken driving collisions.
