ROHNERT PARK (BCN) -- Rohnert Park police say a man attempted to run over an officer and square off with police Saturday night after being stopped on outside a bowling alley on suspicion of drunk driving.
Plainclothes officers were conducting an investigation in the parking lot of Double Decker Lanes at 300 Golf Course Drive around 11:30 p.m. when they saw suspect Omar Perez leaving the premises, police said.
Perez, who appeared intoxicated, watched Alcohol and Beverage Control and police officers arresting a handcuffed minor, with their badges clearly visible, and then got into the driver's seat of his car, police said.
A Rohnert Park officer called for a car to stop Perez, but as he spoke on his radio, Perez allegedly backed up quickly and attempted to strike him with his vehicle.
The officer jumped out of his way, drew his gun and ordered Perez out of the car. Perez got out, but continued to yell profanities, advance on the officer and at one point even strip off his shirt and hat as if he was preparing for a fight. It was not until uniformed officers arrived that Perez was taken into custody.
Perez was found to be at nearly double the legal limit for driving under the influence, and was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and drunk driving
