CHATSWORTH - Two bank employees were hospitalized this afternoon after they handled a $100 bill tainted with cocaine or methamphetamine that caused a burning sensation on their hands, authorities said.
About 1 p.m., the two women were counting money in a back room of the Washington Mutual bank at 10370 N. Mason Ave. when they came across a bill covered with white powder, said Los Angeles Police Officer Sara Faden.
When their skin began to burn, they put the cash in a drawer, called 911 and began washing their hands. The women, 39 and 41, were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Investigators were trying to figure out who deposited the contaminated money - it was unclear because the women never had contact with the customer who deposited the bill.
