Andrew "Dru Filthy" Faamuli is examiner's second puget sound mixtape's featured artist. His track, Microphone Bully is track number 17 on the Puget Sound Mixtape.
An original member of Darxiide, Dru Filthy recorded his first track with Darxiide's Sicill; however, he had his beginnings in hip hop at the age of 15.
Dru Filthy developed his love of hip hop first through his family. He watched his father and uncles rehearse and perform using guitars, keyboards, and drums. As a poet with a family history in music, it was easy for Dru Filthy to transfer his talent and skills to Hip Hop. He explains, "It has allowed me to express myself as a person" and "The aggressiveness of Hip-Hop is an advantage for me to use tough rhymes and poetic lyrics lyrically". His pride in being Samoan has also contributed to his artistry.
It has been a while since Dru Filthy has performed, but the wait will soon be over as he is soon to release his mixtape, "The Filthiest Mixtape", a project that has been in the works for the past many months, and will be back in the spotlight soon. One of his past shows, he shares, was his performance of "Bread and Buttah", a song he wrote, featuring Luciano a member of Houz-Sixxx. Dru Filthy describes the song as seriously crazy with tough and witty lyrics. The song received critical acclaim with the Samoan community in Washington and California.
Finally, the name Dru Filthy is one he received from a friend. Andrew explains, "Filthy" is another way to say cool or tight, and Andrew felt it was an accurate description of the persona he was portraying as an artist, both as a singer and a rapper. He feels he exemplifies all three forms of the hip hop artist as a battler, emcee, and storyteller. And, while he has performed solo, readers can also find him spitting rhymes with Houz-Sixxx.
You can find more about Dru Filthy through his myspace, including details of his upcoming release; and his youtube page. Readers can also follow Dru Filthy's twitter.
