The White Cage fight card so Far

Melvin Manhoef vs. Zelg Galesic and Paulo Filho vs. Yoon Dong Sik set for DREAM.12

Two middleweight bouts have been added to this month's DREAM.12 event, the Japanese-based organization today announced.

Melvin Manhoef (23-6-1) takes on Zelg Galesic (9-4), and Paulo Filho (18-1) meets Dong Sik Yoon (4-7) at the upcoming event.

DREAM.12, DREAM's first-ever event to use a cage (rather than a roped ring), takes place Oct. 25 at Osaka Castle Hall in Osaka, Japan. The event airs on HDNet in North America.

Manhoef, who recently suffered a K-1 unanimous-decision loss to Remy Bonjasky, looks to snap a recent MMA skid. After posting a five-fight win streak with five first-round stoppages, Manhoef has gone just 1-2 in his past three fights with submission losses to both Gegard Mousasi and Filho.

He looks to fight the ship against Galesic, who's three-fight winning streak came to a recent end with a first-round submission loss to Ronaldo Souza at DREAM.6 in 2008. The former PRIDE and Cage Rage fighter competes for the first time in 13 months.

Filho, meanwhile, looks to sustain his recent momentum. After the WEC middleweight champion closed out his career in the organization with a bizarre non-title loss to Chael Sonnen (Filho failed to make weight for the fight and seemed dazed throughout the bout), the Brazilian has since rebounded for victories over Manhoef (submission) at DREAM.10 and Alex Schoenauer (decision) at Bitetti Combat.

He now meets Yoon, one of the streakiest fighters in MMA. After opening his MMA career with four straight losses, the former Korean judoka standout posted four consecutive wins only to then drop his past three, which included a first-round submission loss (due to injury) to Jesse Taylor at DREAM.10 in July.

Report: Alistair Overeem vs James Thompson for DREAM 12

Strikeforce heavyweight champion (cough) Alistair Overeem (30-11) will make his previously scheduled appearance at DREAM 12 on Oct. 25 against former PRIDE heavyweight bruiser James Thompson (14-10), according to MMA Fanhouse.

Yes, the same James Thompson who was stopped by Kimbo Slice at Elite XC: “Prime Time” in 2008 and yes, the same James Thompson who’s dropped four straight and eight of his last ten.

Looks like another quick pit-stop on the Overeem World Tour. Pull the bus over, recycle a few cans, continue heading East.

Rinse and repeat.

Following a hand injury that booted him from two summer events, Strikeforce officials informed MMAmania.com last month that “Demolition Man” was expected to make separate appearances outside of the San Jose-based promotion prior to defending his belt.

One of those stints involved a trip to the K-1 World Grand Prix 2009, the other was for Golden Glory in his native Amsterdam, where he bulldozed the hapless Tony Sylvester on Oct. 17.

Following his bout with “The Colossus,” as well as the remaining fights in K-1, Overeem is expected to return to Strikeforce to defend his heavyweight title (cough).

And with Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and Fedor Emelianenko all gunning for first dibs, don’t expect him to receive a very warm welcome.

DREAM.12 Update! Sakuraba Vs. Galesic

Three and one modified fights have been added to the white cage which will be set up just six days from now.

Zelg “Benkei” Galesic has got a change in opponent as he will now face Kazushi Sakuraba instead of Melvin Manhoef, who is out due to injury.

Katsuyori Shibata returns to take on fellow pro-wrestler Tokimitsu Ishizawa (Kendo Kashin) who is looking to get his second ever MMA victory.

In a Welterweight fight, champion Marius Zaromskis will face Korean Myeon Ho Bae in what looks to be a non-title affair.

And finally, in a Featherweight fight, ZST Bantamweight champion Keisuke Fujiwara will take on Tomoya Miyashita.

VISA ISSUES KNOCK PAULO FILHO OFF DREAM 12 CARD

Once regarded as one of the top fighters in the world, Paulo Filho has had difficulty gaining any momentum since the shuttering of the World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight division that he once sat atop as champion.

He recently had to withdraw from a planned bout at Sunday’s Dream 12 event in Japan, where he was to face Yoon Dong Sik. Brazilian web site Tatame.com reported that Filho’s mother informed them that he was unable to make the trip to Japan due to issues with his visa.

Filho’s manager, Ed Soares, on Friday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that there were complications with his visa, but did not provide details.

Following a well-publicized stint in a substance abuse rehabilitation clinic in Brazil, Filho (18-1) returned after a near yearlong layoff for what was expected to be a defense of his WEC middleweight title in November of 2008. He missed weight and the bout was reduced to a three-round non-title bout, which he lost via decision to Chael Sonnen.

The WEC then discontinued its middleweight division. Unlike other top fighters in the WEC’s 185-pound class, Filho’s contract was not picked up by the UFC.

He has since submitted Melvin Manhoef at Dream 10 in July, and then won a unanimous decision over Ultimate Fighter alumnus Alex Schoenauer in September.

He has been unable, however, to ascend back to the heights he attained in becoming the WEC champion.

Japan-MMA.com reports that Tarec Saffiedine is expected to take Filho’s place against Yoon Dong Sik.

Marius Zaromskis= Any foot: cemetery
Has Cro Cop even got 3 head kick wins in a row?

Anyways, like I said, fights were entertaining at least. Kikuno-Alvarez fight was awesome, I thought The Kreepy One had Eddie a couple of times. The Goddamn Whitemare is my hero, GSP needs to stop ducking him by hiding in the UFC. Ubereem fight was lulz. The Dongbar got a gift decision but it was made up for by The Voice actually calling him The Dongbar during the fight.

All joking aside, UFC needs to study this for awhile to be able to copy the camera angles Dream used for the cage. This was their first caged event, and watching it after 104 was insane. Dream set the new standard of cage camera work, I've never seen some of the angles they used in the fights. Cameras on cranes that went inside the cage and moved out of it when guys went against the fencing was so fucking cool.
