SANTA ROSA — A Sonoma County judge has ruled police twice violated the Miranda rights of a Piedmont doctor charged in a sex sting orchestrated by Dateline NBC's "To Catch a Predator."
Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Arthur Wick ruled this week that officers twice improperly interrogated Dr. Maurice Wolin after he asked to speak with an attorney during the booking process.
The 50-year-old Wolin was one of 29 people arrested in the sting filmed in Petaluma in 2006. Prosecutors say he intended to have sex with a 13-year-old girl, who turned out to be a decoy employed by the show.
Wolin has pleaded not guilty to one felony count of attempted lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. His trial is set to begin Feb. 6.
