Originally posted by thearrival I wanted to push my album i just put out for about 9 months, then. in sept/oct.....put out a double disc wih the first disc being what I would put out on my own as a regualr album, then the second disc being a disc with my crew and features and what not.....
DO IT !!! Sounds tight... Double CD's are good because it gives you a great amount of material to perform, and if you have a bunch of labelmates as guest appearances, its all to the better!
My own 2CD idea im doin is like this...the first CD is music, then the second CD is gonna be videotaped live performances, skits, pranks, outtakes, etc. in VCD format. If you've never heard about it..basically...its like a MP3 for your DVD player: its not as good of quality (about like videotapes vs. dvd's), but you can put damn near 80 minutes of footage, and the best part is that 1) VCD can be played on 9/10 new DVD players that come out, and 2) you burn 'em on regular CD's/CD-R's!
Also, i plan on throwin a few exclusive "Live Only" songs on there, songs especially made to be performed and not to be on any future CD's....(unless we're broke and out of ideas
)
So basically...you get an Audio disk and a Video disk for one low price...so, for example, say you have a couple homies over or somethin, and you wanna play some NW music but they're the Nelly/Jay-Z/Eminem type heheheh....you can pop in the video disk instead of makin them suffer through the audio :classic:
Overall...this is the best 2-CD idea ive been able to come up with so far (I would say DVD instead of VCD, but those would be a couple dollars more per retail unit). If 1-cd pressing is around 1.20-1.50 or so, i couldnt imagine the 2-cd would be any more than 2.50 or so....
If you wanted to put out a ghetto ballin' version (CD-r'z), that works too.....so, realistically, you could spend about $1.50 total per unit (2 CDs, case, inserts, labels), sell it for $5...and have a top notch demo, showcasing both your song skills AND performance skills...
If a group/label/studio wanted to put out a "mixtape" kind of thing, it could work even better.... 10, 12 new tracks on the audio, then 6,8 live performances and a couple cypher sessions on the video disk....and you have a PERFECT label "sampler", if you ask me!
Just a mic, a video card, a camcorder, and a computer, and you could, essentially, put out a A/V demo to show labels (or artists you wanna collab with, even) what you're TRULY fuckin with....
I was gonna save this whole 2CD Audio/Video idea for myself and my peeps...but...fuck it, im probably the first person that wants to see someone do it even before i do!
I'm just rambling by now, but im sure you see my point.....
Neema's idea is just as good, though....i think the key is, like he was already saying, that its gonna be mostly solo's on the first, then guest appearances on the second.....and when you have that kind of split going on, it'll DEFINATELY have an effect on the overall 'vibes' from each of the album's CDs, ya feel? So, yeah...good luck with that, and i mos def think you should do it!
