ASPEN, Colo. - Charlie Sheen spent the better part of Christmas Day in a Colorado jail cell after being arrested on domestic violence allegations.
The 44-year-old actor was taken into custody Friday morning by officers responding to a 911 call from a house in this ski resort town about 200 miles west of Denver.
An ambulance went to the house, but the accuser was not taken to the hospital.
Sheen, the star of CBS' "Two and a Half Men," was taken to the Pitkin County jail and booked for investigation of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, Aspen police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said.
He was released in the late afternoon after posting $8,500 bond and being advised by a county judge on the conditions of his release, she said.
Dasaro declined to name Sheen's accuser, citing a department policy prohibiting the identification of potential victims in domestic violence cases.
Aspen attorney Richard Cummins said late Friday that he was representing Sheen in the case. He declined to name Sheen's accuser or discuss details, but he cautioned against any rush to judgment.

"I think at the end of the day it will be much ado about nothing," Cummins told The Associated Press. "I don't think there's any criminality about what went on."

Cummins said a court date was set for Feb. 8. "That may be to determine whether a case goes forward or not," he said.
Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield also warned against making assumptions.
"It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion," he said.
Sheen is the son of actor Martin Sheen and brother of actor-director Emilio Estevez. He is married to Brooke Mueller Sheen, a real estate investor who gave birth to the couple's first children, twin boys, in March. They married in May 2008 following Sheen's bitter divorce and custody battle with actress Denise Richards.
The star of "Platoon," "Wall Street" and the "Hot Shots!" movies has had run-ins with the law before. In December 1996, he was arrested and charged with attacking a girlfriend at his Southern California home. He later pleaded no contest and was placed on two years' probation.
In 1998, his father turned him in for violating his parole after a cocaine overdose sent him to the hospital. He was later ordered to undergo a rehabilitation program.

LOS ANGELES -- Charlie Sheen's Mercedes-Benz was reported stolen and found crashed some 400 feet below Mulholland Drive this morning, the Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed.

Someone reported a "vehicle over the side" in the 13300 block of the winding ridgetop road at 4:06 a.m., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Soon after, the vehicle was spotted upside-down in a ditch near the actor's home.

Los Angeles city firefighters along with two helicopter crews searched the area for possible crash victims, but none were found.

Officer Bruce Borihanh said there was no evidence to suggest someone was inside the car when it went over the edge.

Sheen reportedly parked the car inside an open garage at his Sherman Oaks home with the keys still inside the ignition.

The home is located in a gated community, and Sheen apparently told authorities that's why he felt safe leaving the car that way.

The actor received a call around 4 a.m. from his remote diagnostics company, similar to OnStar, telling him his car had been involved in a crash and the airbags had deployed, according to online reports.

Sheen apparently then realized his car had been stolen and called authorities. The car was found around the same time in a ditch not far from the actor's home.

It was not clear whether the actor was targeted in the theft. Investigators said nothing else was burglarized from Sheen's home.

No suspects have been found. Police were searching for possible surveillance video of the vehicle leaving the gated community.

The LAPD says it is investigating the case as an auto theft.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck told KTLA that he has "no reason to disbelieve what Charlie (Sheen) said."

SHERMAN OAKS -- For the second time in recent months, a luxury vehicle belonging to "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen has been found over the side of a cliff near the actor's Sherman Oaks home, police have confirmed to KTLA.

A security guard spotted the Mercedes-Benz in a ditch along the 13,300 block of Mulholland Drive just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to Los Angeles Police Department officials.

The vehicle was about 100 feet over the side.

Fire crews responded and determined the vehicle had been abandoned. The engine was running and the keys were inside the ignition.

Officials ran the plates and the vehicle came back registered to Charlie Sheen, police told KTLA.

LAPD officials contacted the actor at his home and he didn't even know the car had been missing. It's being assumed the car was stolen, police told KTLA.

The incident is under investigation.

The scene was almost identical to one that played out a few months back involving another one of Sheen's luxury vehicles.

In February, a different Mercedes-Benz belonging to Sheen was found upside-down at the bottom of a ditch in the same area.

The actor had reported the car stolen from his nearby gated community.

Sheen reportedly parked the car inside an open garage at his Sherman Oaks home with the keys still inside the ignition.

Sheen apparently told authorities he felt safe leaving the car that way because he lives in a gated community.

It was not clear whether the actor was targeted in the theft. Investigators said nothing else was burglarized from Sheen's home.
