Joe and Chris weren't really into rap music or rap music fans, but rap music was selling at the time so they chose to distribute it via DogDay. They were Punk Rockers who wanted to run a Punk Rock label.
They did a good job of bringing attention to alot of Bay Area artists and jump start the careers of alot of artists that the region had forgotten about.
The catalogs of Darkroom Familia and LowTown did very well for them. They also did great things with Andre' Nickatinas' "Raven In My Eyes" and the 11/5 stuff as well as a host of compilations.
They because of their industry connections to the Punk Rock world in New York were able to move alot of the Bay Areas catalogs out of State, but when the going got tough and the Bay Area Record Sales started falling for them they packed up and left to New York to follow that Punk Rock dream.
They just took off one day. Left their Wherehouse and sold off all their Cd's for dirt cheap to very close connections and just bounced out to New York.
I feel for the people that got stuck without not knowing ahead of time that they were leaving and just dropping the business. Darkroom Familia as businessmen saw it coming before it happen and jumped shit and took all aspects of their careers into their own hands including Distribution. Too bad not everyone saw it in advance.
