LONG BEACH, Calif.
The public's help was sought Friday to find who would suffocate a Chihuahua in a plastic bag, then set it on fire at a Long Beach park.
The fire, reported at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Houghton Park, led firefighters to smoldering palm tree fronds covering a plastic bag with the dead dog inside.
Authorities believe the dog suffocated in the bag before the fire was set, Long Beach Fire Battalion Chief Frank Hayes said.
The dog, a 1- to 2-year-old male, did not have an identification microchip and there was no evidence of additional trauma.
