I won't put down my personal opinion just yet, but I would like to know if people believe the strategy is working or if they need to change it.

Get the fuck out.
Any occupation is looked upon negatively, obviously. Any fucking country invade America you know we, as citizens, would fight back. That's whats happening in the Middle East.
They don't want another fucking U.S. supported government like Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

I think the U.S. should stop intervening in foreign affairs. If a developing country is having internal problems, let them deal with it. If things are really that bad in a country, the people will eventually rise in arms and revolt against their tyrannical government. The U.S. should focus on fixing OUR internal problems first. Imagine if all of the Billions of dollars spent per week by the U.S. in war were instead redirected towards helping out the average American....

I'm curious as to what exactly we're really trying to do or accomplish. It's said that you shouldn't get in a land war in asia and we're literally fighting in one of the most barron places on earth and it's like we're looking for a thumb tac or something. What are we really even doing there but wearing out our troops, wasting money and losing lives? This has been going on for damn near 10 years. Enough is enough

I don't think this war is unwinnable, but it is when you have bureaucrats running the show.

Lets say leaving till one side is defeated, that is the basis of my question, withdrawing is not an option.

The strategy we have now is stupid. We're not being as aggressive as we should be.

we're trying to do the second part before the first part, lol.

@Huero

Watching vid now, a couple of things. Iraq war wasn't won because it turned into a civil war and there is still fighting, bombings going on.

My view is they are fighting a conventional war against an unvonventional army, guerilla warfare.

Also I agree the enemy is in it for the long haul, never have we seen so much fanaticism in enemy forces. The only realistic defeat is total defeat.

But then again I'm not there.

I also think we need to cut the head off the snake, their base in pakistan.. I don't think pakistan or the rest of the world are doing enough in this sense.

Also, America is so far outstretched with deployments all over the world, what would happen if a conventional force declared war on her?

In a perfect world, Europe and the rest of Asia should of delt with the Taliban, Iraq, Libya and the other despots while the US focuses on South America to stop the drug trade for good.

also not learning from Russia's mistakes with their failed invasion and an almost unconquerable land is another reason why it will be hard to win this.

I'm thinking alot of greed to grab whatever supplies/resources globally by the US might be it's downfall, very similar to the Roman Empire at it's peak. But then again If the US falls it will take down (nukes) many with it lol.

The war the Russians fought in Afghanistan is completely different from the war the US/Nato is fighting in Afghanistan now.

in the 80s it was a popular insurgency EVERYWHERE in Afghanistan...every ethnic group, every province, every district was pretty much contested...

nowadays...its pretty much a localized war in the Pashtun Areas in the south and East...provinces in the north and west are safe for the most part..by Afghan standards atleast, lol. Although, there are pockets in the North and West where it's tough going...like Kunduz where their is a larger Pashtun pop compared to the rest of the north...

the majority of fighting happens in a handful of areas compared to the whole country...The agricultural green zone areas in the south in Kandahar and Helmand..and the mountainous areas bordering Pakistan in the East in Kunar, Nuristan, Paktika..etc...

What West was getting was reffering into as 'succeeding' in Iraq was how the Insurgency was pretty much destroyed/crippled in 06-07-08. Iraq still has a terrorism problem, though.

Some commanders are complaining about the opposite...it was mentioned in the video too. Supposedly US/Nato is getting too much into the whole 'Heart and Minds' Counter insurgency doctrine without completely fucking the enemy up first and being agressive as fuck bringing everything you got to bear on the enemy.
