I was wondering the same thing

you need a good soundcard/audio interface and you do have to know how to properly use those plugins though, i do know that. You also need alot of ram on your computer to keep all those plugins and vsts running simultainiously. aside from that recording software shouldnt really be that much of a factor, you just gotta know how to use what you have.

Im not one of the experts though, Im waiting on what Hersy and Sickwidit have to say

isnt audacity a free program though?...
if you can record audio in you bedroom and not have it sound like you recorded it in your bedroom then it shouldnt matter what software you use

They all SUM different and they all have a different PANNING LAW but for the most part it's based on the interface (sound card, sound card pre amps) and the ad-da conversion thats taking place. I've heard a difference in plugins from different formats. The UA pultec does NOT sound like the BF pultec. IMHO both sound great but I prefer the UA but own the BF. Confusing?

I've never heard of audacity so I can't comment but what are your needs? I'll say it before and I'll say it again pro tools is cool but it's not the ULTIMATE. No program is the end all be all and to be honest I'm sick and tired of pro tools. I own it but use cubase sx for myself and I don't have any complaints.

:HGK:

PS so why do I have pro tools? For my clients. It comes in handy when cats say "I need it pro tooled". LMAO!

so what your sayin that its not the progam you buy,but the things "effects" the program comes with and a good soundcard?and yea, you lost me with the "The UA pultec does NOT sound like the BF pultec". ..could you please put that in more simple words for the starters in here?

No. What I'm saying is the way your sound will be determined is based on what your running the sound through (pre amps and converters) and how the program handles the summing buss. I would be more concerned with the pre amp and converter aspect.

UA is UNIVERSAL AUDIO. BF is BOMB FACTORY. Both are companies which pride themselves in making plugin replicas of this:

I've been using the pultec eq as one of my top 4 eq's. I have the waves eq but I like the pultec better. I'm able to dial in and get the sound I want hella quick. .

I'm loving it :)

:hgk:

ps BF no longer exists as a compnay. DIGIDESIGN/AVID bought them out.

i just bought a UAD-1 card, got the La-2 for free, and bought the Precision Limiter for 100bucks
(i got the project pack)
i love the Pultec EQ it's so simple, i love the LA-2a plug, and the 1176se isn't bad
the Precision Limiter shits on the L2 from Waves
but still sucks
but hey, you kinda gotta use a brickwall don't you?

yes, first it's MICROPHONE, but a great mic can't be great without a great Mic Pre(or at least a very good one) then it's your Interface/Ad Converter, i use an outboard Converter, some people use the ones on their card
the only one on an audio interface card that is GREAT(besides sadie and what not) is the Lynx 2

its not the program but the program has alot what to do on how you shape your sound just like an engineer. Plugins and sound cards have the most significant sound on your recording. I perfer Cubase or Nuendo but I do own Pro tools LE ........

The hardware you use is important in your overall quality, period.

Multi-tracking is multi-tracking if thats what your asking, audition is perfectly a-ok for that.
