Popular Canadian mixed martial artist Joe Doerksen (Pictures) confirmed to Sherdog.com that he will fight former PRIDE standout Paulo Filho (Pictures) for the vacant World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight title in Las Vegas on Aug. 5.

With 48 mixed martial arts bouts under his belt, Doerksen will have a wealth of experience to rely on when facing the undefeated Filho, who sports a record of 14-0 and is considered amongst the top middleweights in the world.

"I don't get excited about much, but yeah, I'm looking forward to it," Doerksen told Sherdog.com from his home in Winnipeg.

"I think it's a good fight for me," he continued, "I don't think it's an easy fight, but I think it's a winnable fight."

This will be the first of four fights that Doerksen's manager Monte Cox secured for him with the WEC, replacing his three-fight obligation to PRIDE after the Japanese company was sold to Zuffa owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta.

Doerksen revealed that his DEEP fight in April was actually a fight that PRIDE set up for him.

"I'm not going into there to not lose," he said. "It's not going to be enough anymore.

"I want to beat some Top 10 guys and see how far I can go in this sport."
