Have you ever noticed that these artists that drop a mixtape as their first project really never come out with an album.

Ex:
Dirty Birdy
Lil Eazy-E
Dr. Stank
G. Malone
Bishop Lamont
Jay Rock
Problem
Sly Boogy (Not sure if Judgement Day is considered official)
Dynamic Certified
Crooked I
Young Maylay
Young Hootie
Damani

But you have artists who drop an official album as their first release and they usually followed up with a 2nd.

Ex:
Suga Free
Roscoe
Mitchy Slick
The well knowns(Cube,Quik,DPG,Snoop)

I think they put the mixtapes out so that their real fans have something to listen to while they try to get a record deal squared away. I think most of those artists are just too hard for the radio and the record labels don't want to deal with real west coast gangsta music. But I sure would love to hear some real albums by all of those artists on your list.

That's the reason why I don't get excited when it comes to mixtapes. Use your own beats god dammnit, that's the whole part about being original. I think beats are just important as the lyrics, it should fit the style of what your saying. I mean you rap on a well know beat, then you end up sounding just like that well know rapper, the vibe don't change. Using an existing beat forces you to sound just like the original rapper for the most part. Might as well just do a remix.

and that's real... It think that should be the real beef in rap... If I was a rapper or a producer I would be socking muthafuckas up over using my sh*t...

Kind of off topic, but if a rapper has all original beats, why don't they call it or release it as an album instead of a mixtape? Is there a difference?

haha ah man thats a good ass point. but yeah man ppl gotta take it easy on them mixtapes, not that its a bad thing but i think when u give away too much music for free, when u finally drop that retail album it dont mean as much to the fans.

i dont really like people recycling mixtape songs to a retail album.

because 5-ten years down the line ya album might not mean any more than that mixtape...so why recycle..

if you really have a heated ass song youre getting feedback on before you mixtape it, save that for your album...

i mean sometimes i understand its a parellel type deal..you dont know how the songs going to get received..and it ends up cracking on your mixtape then you gotta put it on your album to strenghen the catelog..

i think people need to start including they mixtape game as a package with the album..

maybe tell half yo story on the mixtape then the end on the album

like know how your mixtape correlates with the album dropping...and have your sound/audio/song quality up to par on both the mixtape and the album...no shitty sound cuz its a mixtape..

and not have half of your mixtape on the album...

a mixtape should be a seperate album, if done good enough.

and people need to go back to letting real djs to they mixtapes

not just cuz hes green lantern or clue or envy or whatever (i'm not dissin any of them i'mjust naming known mixtape circuit djs) but because he can wreck it on the turntables and make your shit a cohesive product..

anyways im ramblin but all im sayin is i wanna see mixtapes go back to the days where they were tight..you wanted to buy it...now a days a pause tape has a price tag on it..i used to make mixtapes so i had some jammin shit in my car...

the mixtape game is fucked up

if you ask me and its not cuz im preachin...alot of artists need management..or someone to tell them where to project they talent, cuz some people only understand how to make music...not how to make a promotional package for your upcoming album or some sort of side project before the album..

i think an album teaser is different. thats where you showcase a upcoming songs real quick.

Unfortunately they're following it up with another mixtape. Look at Crooked I his album was supposed to drop a few years ago. Glasses Malone was signed with Sony and didnt do nothing now he just inked a deal with Hoo Bangin/Cash Money.

my thing with jacking beats is this

if you gon jack beats

jack some rare shit, dig in the fucking crates and come at us with some beat we aint heard in a while. records cost 99 cent at amoeba and rasputins and so on.

dont just come with the pop lock and drop it beat or the new plies/t-pain beat because its hot...

a real bad example of a mixtape song is canibus, singing.....on the Omarion "i just wanna love you" instrumental.

if youre street level jack beats with wreckless abandon, no one knows you, leave no contact info, you can steal the delfonics and parliment and whatever the fuck.

if its on some label shit i say go to the late 90's beats and get permission and you cool.

mitchy duz it......yeah yall never thought id give that a shout out...is a good example of good choice in mixtape beats
