My question may sound retarded, but that is because I am the most computer illiterate person there is. But I need a part that will give my computer more storage space. My ITunes is filling up all space on my C drive, so I need more storage space. I believe they are called external hard drives. Which one would you recommend because I am probably going to store about 20,000 songs on my ITunes?

Also, is there something that can speed up my computer? I'm not necessarily talking about the internet because I know I can upgrade to a faster speed, but is there a device that will speed up programs I am using on my computer? Everything seems to take fucking forever. Thanks.

The external Seagates are supposed to be good. Plus, they have the abililty to use eSata.

And you can defrag that C drive til the cows come home...it aint gonna free up THAT much space. Defragging mostly puts files where they are supposed to go. Bascially, it arranges your file cabinet in an alphabetical order so your HD can find shit faster.

I don't know what's the logic behind having 20,000 songs...

Since you can only listen to one song at a time.
And a typical song lasts 4 minutes.
So an hour of music is about 15 songs.
Unless you spend about 24/7 of listening to songs theres no reason 2 have 20,000 songs
lol

Huh?

Ever heard of backing your music up? What if you lose an extremely rare CD? What if someone breaks into your car and steals a portion of your CD collection?

There a several reasons why you would have 20,000 songs. I dont even own any physical CD's, as all my music is played on my MP3 player.

Western Digital/Seagate>Hitachi>Samsung>Maxtor
And thats a BIG drop off after WD/Seagate seeing as how I don't think I could ever use a Hitachi "deathstar" again but I definitely would buy one before a Maxtor.

As a 45-year technician and Computer Store owner...I would rather eat Pig-shit than buy another Maxtor Drive.

@AdolfOliverBush
Is there anything you can delete on your hard drive? Also, go to the control panel and uninstall any unneeded prgrams.

.
IBM was more the "deathstar" culprit. Hitachi bought the rights to IBM after that whole thing went down.

I looked up a some 2.5 HDD for the PS3, and Hitachi was right up there with WD (Toshiba had the best rated). The Hitachi has a better letency and seek time than the WD in the same size/class.

Hitachi was also the first company to have a 1 TB HD.

Yeah that's true about the deathstar, but honestly I don't think I'd ever buy something other than Seagate/WD.

I'd like to see those test results for the Hitachi, I know they're regarded as a performance drive, but....
With peak data rates up to 95 MB/s, the 750 GB top-of-the-line member in the Caviar SE 16 family is the fastest 7,200 RPM hard disk we've seen in our test labs to date. Even the median value of nearly 75 MB/s is on a par with that of the 10,000 RPM Raptor drive WD1500, and its minimal transfer rates clearly trump those of the competition.

but it's not going to mean shit to most because they won't even be able to tell.

And I have that 750gb WD they tested as well as a 10,000rpm 74GB Raptor and just benched them and the 750gb (that's 97% full) has a higher burst, comparable read, but a higher (bad) random access time.

I just got rid of my 2x74gb Raptors in Raid 0 that absolutely MURDERED these benches, but real world performance was marginal and I needed another sata port.

I just bought a Maxtor 250 GB and plugged it in to the outlet and the put the USB cord into the computer and nothing happened. It said the Maxtor screen was supposed to pop up, but it never did. It also said I was supposed to follow the prompts and install the software, but I did not get a software disk with the harddrive. I don't know what's going on, but I guess I'm taking it back tomorrow.

i think u need an external hard drive and transfer al ur files to that, as for speed, i think u need to install more ram. i think best buy does that kinda shit for u, but most people do it themselves.
