So how about it. If a siccness member doesn't pay for the music, should Strange
give much "real" thought to those opinions?

I've known people who have never had a dollar to their name, and found it awfully funny to listen to them try and preach on the how to of making money. Or people who have no college degree explain the right way to get one. Or people never in a successful relationship act as experts on the subject matter.

Is it wise to cater to a mindset that doesn't buy records when the business is selling records?

if i was still buying all my music, i prolly wouldnt be on this forum. i would have alot less money, i wouldnt be bored with 95% of all rap albums dropping. at least 75% of my knowledge of rap and music in general has came from me bootlegging albums and i aint gonna lie, i dont buy most albums that i download, but if i think the album is worth buying, ill be there the day it drops to pick it up.

on sunday morning (like 4 am) i downloaded Mindless Self Indulgence-If, i had never heard of the band before, my homie let me hear a few songs he got from them off limewire, yesterday (wednesday) i ordered a copy of the album cuz i thought it was worth the money.

so anyway. people who buy music dont have any better or worse opinions that are worth more or less then bootleggers.

Thanks for sharing :)

But you do buy the music you listen to.
if i think the album is worth buying, ill be there the day it drops to pick it up.
There are some who won't buy the music regardless. If there was a poll asking for what fans would want on an upcoming album, say three different groups were the participants in the poll. First group never ever buys an album. Second group will download and listen first, and then buy if they like. Third group will buy regardless. Wouldn't the information be of greater use from the second and third group. The second group because you want the listener to decide to buy, and the third group because you want to keep them loyal buyers.

From the artists and labels standpoint, wouldn't the information be more useful to know who will spend money on your product?

I would say it's not what you buy but rather what you listen to. For example, when you have someone here saying that Lil Wayne is better than Tech you KNOW he is completly retarded and should not be aloud to post becuz they obviously dont think for themselves. But ya know everyone entitled to their own opinion even if its wrong. I would also say in the case of rap, someone that listens to all types of rap can form a much better opinion on all types of rap. For example I got someone I work with loving Tech N9ne and this cat loves punk music. He says bullshit like 2pac being terrible and that just throws any credibility out the door. I just think it depends on how you look at certain opinions.

People who don't buy the records don't pay our bills. I really don't care what internet trolls think....
If you weren't getting paid the salary you like, you wouldn't be in the music biz now, would you? And don't give that bullshit about" we do it for the fans", because if you guys did, you wouldn't be bitching about people buying the records and Snug wouldn't be makin e-threats.

I don't make alot of money. In fact, I struggled for years before I could actually make a decent living making music. Most people in the music biz don't make much money. The reality is, we have to make a living like anyone with a normal job. If artists quit making money, they will have to choose another profession. It's survival, that's all. That's why the people that spend the money matter to artists. Speaking for myself, I don't do it for the fans specifically. Music gives me something that nothing else can. Although the music is for the fans and their opinion is valid, I don't usually think about it while creating the music. But my job is a little different, cause the fans aren't MY fans, and I don't WRITE the music(well sometimes I do)...if that makes sense...but I want the records to make money because it will make me vital and in demand....

I really admire that, at least you've admitted that it's not for the fans, you're doin it for yourself, and that's all it should ever be. That's exactly the kind of shit that should happen. It's all about your own paper, do what you can to get it, fuck what everyone else says. Anybody who says they release music for their fans is either gettin paid really big money, or is just lying. That's why I called you out on that, and I like how you responded. A fan shouldn't be buying your music because of the genre of music you fall into, but because the music you put out is YOU to the fullest, and it fits what they like. People like Tech cuz he's a real mothafucka. And a lot of people admire that.

Well if you're looking to get people to pay for your albums, then the person who is just downloading your albums isn't in your target demographic. It would make more senese to listen to the people paying for your shit because you're not gonna get a dime pleasing the downloaders.

So yeah, the paying fans opinion is literally, more valuable.

I never buy anymore. Haven't for over a decade. Except for that Tony Yayo CD I bought on a whim, what a mistake that was. Too much crap out there. However, Strange Music has been so strong lately that I am seriously thinking of throwing them some of my hard earned dough. I do however buy tickets for concerts, and think this is how we should be supporting the artists. On that note - Strange music, please come to Canada!!!!!!

It really depends on what kind of downloaders are being talked about. If it's people that haven't bought an album in years and don't plan on going to the store and paying for one any time soon, then their opinion means nothing.

However, if it's coming from someone who tends to buy a decent amount of music and support the artists they like, then listening to their opinion might get you on their list of supported artists.

Though, there is no real way of knowing who is who and thus the typical response would be Hardcore Buyers>Any Downloaders

exactly concerts, endorsements, etc. is where you REALLY make the money.
if it wasn't so, why would 50 cent be on top of vitamin water? lol.
(bad example lol)

concerts are wonderful money makers, include the 25 dollar t-shirts, the 15 dollar posters, the 20 buck custom belt buckle. there is plenty to do other than sell albums, but it has created what many call 'sell outs'.

Depends on the label.

I know Subnoize Records, instead of the few cents the big labels make, the artist makes...about five bucks an album sold.

But still, I understand what you're saying.
