This is really the only forum I post on that is California based. Otherwise my inhibition might have pointed me in another direction. With that said..

I bought a truck from a friend of mine and he submitted his release of liability the same day. This was quite some time ago. I'm going to register the truck now and I need to know if the DMV compares the information I submit in the title transfer form with the release of liability he submitted. Because if I could change the sale date to a more current date and time, and lower the price or purchase, then I can save a significant amount of money.

I've done this before under the impression that no release of liability was submitted by seller, and it worked just fine. Now I'm not so sure.

Please advise.

The thing is I don't know what he put down on the form (which was done months ago), and neither does he. So if he put that he sold it for $5,000 on 8/25/10, and I put that I bought it for $3,000 on 1/12/11 on my form, are they going to compare the two and throw a shit-fit?

I think this is actually what I'm going to do. And if they say anything I'm just gonna play dumb, like it was a typo on the form or some shit.
