What it dew-do?

What it dew-do, me friends.

It's a new year, time for a new website, and here it is. Hope y'all are diggin' it.

I know everyone wants to know what's up with the album, so here's what I can tell you. I'm planning on finishing at the end of March 2006. That could change, but I doubt it. There's too many important windows that start to close if I miss that deadline and I'm determined not to do that. 8 songs are finished and mixed. Another 2 or 3 should be done this month, with the rest to follow. Haven't settled on a title yet (it usually comes at the last second).

Stylistically, it's very different from The Private Press. Some have said “Press” was an inward-looking album. If that’s true, than this album is the opposite, and that suits me just fine. I’ve also stopped worrying if my changing taste in music costs me fans; life’s too short to live in anyone’s box, especially if that box is constraining your shine. Case in point: cats who tried to goal tend “3 Freaks” without knowing anything about Bay music or its history, even as the song was on its way to classic status among those who actually support and create Bay music. What does that prove? I believe it proves that sometimes you’ve got to clean house. It’s something that all artists I admire have done at one time or another, be it Neil Young, Marvin Gaye, or whoever. You can’t please everybody all the time, but you can please yourself. So go ahead and hate me now, you’ll love me for it later. And on that note...

I'd like to spread love to M1 Promo, Rob, J.C., KMEL, Big Von, Rick Lee, Scotty Fox, Mind Motion, and everyone else who has been supporting “3 Freaks” on mix shows and at the club. There’s big things in store for the new year, as the process of taking the song nationwide begins. (For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, “3 Freaks” is a song I dropped with Bay Area spitters Keak Da Sneak and Turf Talk that has been blowing up the radio in Northern Cali since October.) Watch for the remix and video coming soon! It’s gonna be off the rack this year.

After the album comes out I’ll probably tour, so you can expect the site to be hopping with tour date information this summer. I don’t think, however, that the tour will be on the scale of the 2002/2003 Private Press “In Tune and On Time” tour. The risk is that I get stuck in a “BIGGER! BETTER!” kind of mentality, when really I think the time is right to scale back and concentrate on putting a show together that highlights what I’m doing now, rather than an exhaustive retrospective. Maybe after two more albums it’ll be time for another super tour, but for now I think we’ll keep it to a size we can all digest. Plus my life is more consistent when I don’t take 15 months away from music by hitting the road, like last time.

Alright that’s enough, enjoy the site, have a look around, come back whenever. The door is always open.

Also, I just caught an interview with him on D2S and he mentioned a couple features from the album: Keak, Turf Talk and David Banner.

I'm guessing "3 Freaks" will be on there or will the Keak and Turf features be something else? I'd be interested in hearing a new collab with those two.
