Distribution Information

Just wondering the ins and outs of distribution for bay artists. What options are available and any advice etc. Who needs it etc? Have heard different stories regarding distribution. So I'm hoping to get a better understanding of what's available and what to expect more or less. This is in regards to actual cds not digital.

does anyone know which distributors are available? i know people who have used city hall and smc (i think thats what its called). but i dont know the difference between the two.
