DISABLING SOUNDCARD!!!! IMPORTANT

How do I disable my soundcard for a Compaq Presario 4284. Im installing a new one. I tried everything, it's making conflicts. Please help if you have the mother settings. Thanks

I may be wrong, but I'm assuming you're talking about a desktop.
If so... you have to enter the bios settings at start-up and disable it there and adjust the settings so that it will read your new sound card from the pci slot. That should do it. make sure you save the settings before exiting the bios.l

Also check your HCL (hardware compatability list )

You can likely disable it in the bios, since it probably is a AC97 soundcard built into your motherboard.

go to control panel...system...hardware....device manager...then go to Sound devices i think it should be...right click on your soundcard, and disable it

moe that might still cause conflicts. you dont even want it showing up in windows at all so do as the others say and hit delete while your computer is booting up. go to the bios setup screen and disable onboard sound.
