Digital Promotion & Networking is great but…

While I'm one of the biggest supporters of taking advantage of the digital world it is also very important for you to get out and physically interact with people. A email, phone call or myspace message will never compare with physically shaking someone’s hand or looking a person in the eye as you discuss your business together. Some of my best business relationships were started and solidified when I made the effort to physically be in the same room as the people I desired to work with in entertainment.
Trade shows, live events, and industry parties all provide great places for not only showing people you are serious about what you do but also to establish personal relationships. Similarly the digital world is great for artists to reach their fans all across the world but nothing is better then for your fans to be able to reach out and touch you. Every up and coming and even most established artists should make it a point to get out and meet the fans at least once every couple of months. As a up and coming artist that every couple of months should be more like every couple weeks. As an up and coming artist you have the unique advantage of not being so huge that your handlers will not let you get down and touch the people. This is invaluable as people want to be a part of something and one of the best ways to achieve that is to get on their level and let them see you’re with them in their cities eating at the spots they love and shopping where they shop.
In this digital age where the entertainment business is more saturated then ever with new artists popping up every other hour remember that combining the digital realm with the physical world is the most powerful weapon you have.
