You were 10 hmm? Yup I was a little younger then you I believe. I was a lot more politcally orientated then a lot of my friends so at the time I had a lot to say about the war. Basically I was rooting for whatever team this guy was on:

God Bless America.

I came home from Basketball practice and was told of the news. I didnt have as much respect back then for life as i do now. I didnt support it or not support it, back then i just liked to see the night tme video footabe of weapons shooting, and the Desert Storm Trading Cards :) Today i would never support any war. Even if were attacked, i will defend us, but it is for safety, i am on my own agenda, no military manipulation.

When you're in elementary school i don't really know how serious you can take war as to support it or not, despite how hard the weekly reader (remember the weekly reader?) tries.

So i didn't really have an opinion as to yes or no as far as i remember. I do remember having an opinion on the propaganda of that war. I remember really not liking the "Operation Desert Storm" stickers they put on all the doors at my elementary school, with the bald eagle. And the yellow ribbons and all that. The in school "discussions" of the weekly reader.

I liked watching the bombs and tanks and planes on TV, growing up a G.I. Joe kid and loving military air-craft it was a cool thing when you didn't have to think about "real" people dying.

So yea i dug watching it on TV, but i remember being struck by how they talked about the war to us kids. I remember feeling like i was being talked down to more than usual, the whole "just a dumb kid" kinda talk, and i remember not feeling like i was being told the whole story or there was something missing.

I was in either fifth or sixth grade, my pops was over therrrre. And yes it was for a "just cause" we were there.
Iraq invaded a country, we were defending that country......
Do I feel someone should of tried invading us by now for doing what we did to Iraq, I think we deserve it, they would be in a for a figt of their life tho. I don't think people understand how strong of a spirt we have for our country.

If Kuwaits main export was carrots, and not oil, do you think we would have gone over there to "defend that country?".....doubtful.

If you don't agree with the U.N. backed invasion of Iraq then I think it would be safe to assume that you support the invasion of Kuwait. I believe this because without Desert Storm, Saddam takes over Kuwait and extends his dictatorship. Of all the rants on how evil the U.S. is for invading Iraq to occupy it's oil, it is ironic that people are on here protesting the first gulf war where Saddam invaded Kuwait to occupy it's oil. Exactly how does this reasoning work?

How can you argue that the invasion on Iraq (not sanctions) were wrong? Anybody?

Well since there were 32 countries involved in the invasion, I would say yes.

Wrong. I'm saying that, speaking of how Bush should be shot for his actions in Iraq (over oil), and then ridiculing the invasion of Iraq which was in spite of Saddam invading Kuwait for oil is competely contradictory. I have no authority to assert that two wrongs equal a right, but I strongly believe that those who do wrong should be punished. How else would we go about preventing repeated criminal offenses in the future?

I thought this was about what we thought when it happened?

Can't speak for the rest of you educated elementary / jr high kids, but i didn't have a in depth foreign policy education when the first gulf war happened. Maybe you went to a really really really good school then.

Why change the subject?

I meant to say...I thought that I liked the black cortez with the guess overalls better back then...and USA will kick anyones ass...and Saddam backwards is madd ass...that was from the Arsenio Hall show...In essence I didn't have a clue as to what was going on back then...not to say that I have a better hold on whats going on today, but back then we could have been dropping a-bombs, and I wouldn't have known the difference.

I thought the topic was asking if we supported it in general.

I only remember a few things:

1. I thought it was a tiny war. I knew that the U.S. was a monster in this world, and that Iraq was physically inferior to us. So I was under the impression that only a handful of Americans were dying in the war (seriously, like 5 or so) because I heard nothing of it's disastrous effects.

2. I remember two girls from my school, both of which had a father killed in the war, protested by tying their shoe-laces to the flagpole, missing class all day.

3. There was a cease fire.

-END OF WAR-

Did I supprt it the Gulf War? I was without the capacity to make such a sound decision.
