They were talking about this scandal in the Houston school district. They covered up all the student dropouts to make it look like they stopped going to school for some other reason. For example, if someone dropped out they would simply say they transferred or took the GED when they obviously didnt. As a result, everyone was praising Houston for having a dropout rate of about 1.4%, when in reality less than half of the students graduated.
What really makes this interesting is that the head of that school district at the time is now Bush's secretary of Education and the man responsible for the controversial "No Child Left Behind" program. The Houston district involved with this scandal is an extremely poor one. The kids who drop out do so because of the poverty they live in. So what the people in power are telling us is that rather than trying to fix the poverty problem, they're just going to make a massive cover up.
I don;t trust this guy to be in charge of education, and it makes me trust Bush even less than I ever did before for appointing him. They obviously don't care about a good education

last time i checked Senator Ted Kennedy-(D) from Mass. was the senator in charge of the "no child left behind " program.

and the last time i checked i believe it was Ron Paige who was the Secratary of Education.

so who is to blame here???

Yes, Rod Paige is the Secretary of Education. He was also superintendent of the Houston school district.
Paige and Eugene Hickock (Undersecretary of Education, former Pennsylvania secretary of Education) are the key figures in the NCLB plan, not Kennedy.

They arent the only schools to do this, doesnt suprise me, america is run by people like mcleanhatch, those who only care about what they want, not what is right, not what even makes sense.

yeah Kryptic, you're right its happening everywhere. Houston was just the first city to be exposed on a major scale.

Mcleanhatch, for me its not about politics. "liberal" and "conservative" are just labels. the issue of providing children with a good education and doing it with integrity is more important than political affiliation, but unfortunately a lot of people in the government cant seem to get that through their head.

My mom was telling me that back in her day it was almost unheard of to drop out of highschool, I look around and most of the people I went to school with are highschool dropouts.
