Hester broke the all-time return TD record in only 5 seasons compared to the previous holder who did it in 15 seasons to get 13 TD's. Hester has 14 return TD's in 150 less games.

Part of the amazing thing was MN was kicking it out of bounds all night. So he really only had one opportunity (he had barely caught another one going out of bounds). He also had a kick off return all the way to the 5 yard line

Another thing is I know he's had at least 4 kick return TD's called back, that I can remember, for penalties and he also has a 108 yard missed FG return for a TD as well.

I think 90% of the Siccness could've returned that one for a touchdown, but props to Hester nevertheless for a great career as a return specialist.

Its too bad he cant do anything else.
He also scored a TD pass in the game as well.

Hester is a pretty decent WR on the team. Last year he had 57 catches 757 yards. He's never going to be a #1 type of WR, but he can be used effectively and as the mike martz system evolves in Chicago, especially if they upgrade their offensive line, there is no reason why Hester shouldn't become even better.

Hester is the GOAT at returning, I have no problems saying that. Consider not only the td's called back on penalties, you have to factor in the numerous times he was kicked away from out of bounds every game every year not just last night.

Devin Hester sets return TD mark
NFL Devin Hester sets return TD mark - ESPN

ATLANTA -- Devin Hester of the Atlanta Falcons set an NFL record with the 20th touchdown return of his career when he brought back a second-quarter punt 62 yards for a touchdown against Tampa Bay on Thursday night.

Hester previously shared the record with mentor Deion Sanders, who attended the game for CBS/NFL Network and saluted Hester on the video board.

Sanders tweeted his approval later.

@D_Hest23 like I said is the BEST EVER!! #TRUTH

- DeionSanders (@DeionSanders) September 19, 2014
Hester now has 14 punt returns for scores to go with five kickoff returns for scores and a return of a missed field goal for a touchdown.

The 62-yarder was his first return score for the Falcons, with the rest having come during his time with the Chicago Bears from 2007 through '12.

Hester's record-breaking touchdown was his second score of the night. On the first play of the second quarter, he took a reverse and raced 20 yards to the end zone to give Atlanta a 28-0 lead.

Hester, though, did exit the field before halftime with cramps. The Falcons, leading 35-0, said he was questionable to return in the second half, but he ended up re-entering the game with 11 minutes, 19 seconds left in the third quarter.

"I think it's awesome, and it couldn't happen to a better man," former Bears teammate and retired linebacker Brian Urlacher told ESPN.

"Kind of weird seeing him do it in a Falcons jersey against the coach that drafted him [Lovie Smith, who now coaches the Buccaneers]. But an awesome accomplishment for him, though. I'm very proud of him."

The Bears also commended Hester via Twitter: "Still ridiculous, @D_Hest23. Congratulations on breaking the return record."

One of my favorite players. I enjoyed watching him back in college at Miami...super dynamic and electric whenever he has the ball in his hands. That total of return TDs would be even higher if he continued to play cornerback in the NFL. I was just watching this video a few days ago, too:

Man he was a game changer with Chicago.

Never forget that Arizona come back where Rex Grossman had 5 picks. I've never seen a defense and special teams win a game like that from behind with literally no help from thevoffense, just defensive scores and a punt return TD

pretty sure he only scored the punt return and on a reverse.
Check the date on that post - 12-21-2010.

Hester has had kick return records for a while now. This new Deion Sanders record he broke last night was for total combined returns:

Sanders' total includes interception returns, while Hester has reached the feat purely on special teams - including one return of a missed field goal for a score.

Deadspin had a good article today talking about imagine if Hester was used better with more creative offenses. The fact that last night, his 20 yard TD run, was the longest run of his career, speaks volumes about how vanilla Chicago's offense was under Lovie Smith. They could have done a lot more with him. Unfortunately they Rex Grossman/King Neckbeard era was pretty shitty offensively.
