Developing your brand with the internet.

In entertainment and business image is everything, the way you are perceived can dictate how strong your consumer base may or may not be. Showcasing the events and things you are involved in is more important then ever and with the plethora of resources now available to you there is no excuse to not get the maximum exposure for yourself or your business. When planning for a business trip, a event or the release of a new project always prepare yourself to do all of the things necessary to not just let your current consumers know about it but also to let potential customers and other business people know about it. Even if you feel like the same resources available to major corporations aren’t available to you keep in mind that we are living in the Digital age where sites like Myspace, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and more allow for you to market yourself and company to people all across the world. If you are a aspiring business person take advantage of Youtube’s free video hosting and do a weekly video blog where you take a video camera with you every where you go and document your daily life. This can be a great vehicle for letting people see the process you go through in developing your brand and allow them to feel like they know you better which usually will encourage them to follow the brand you’re developing. Twitter is great because it allows you to do quick updates from your computer or mobile phone that people will be able to follow. For example when I’m on the road or just in the office I will do Twitter updates such as “Waiting on my plane to Las Vegas to work on new Music Video with Sidewayz.” With this Twitter post I am keeping people updated daily or even hourly on my life while similarly letting potential clients know about the artists I’m already working with as well as the exciting projects we are working on. Myspace.com needs no introduction but is a very necessary website for any aspiring business person who is interested in connecting directly to their consumer base through a non-invasive way of marketing. Allowing you to set up your own mini website complete with blogs, music players, video players and bulletins Myspace is a great tool when used correctly. What I mean by used correctly is that allot of people get on Myspace and seem to not take the time to get the maximum amount of resources out of it. Whether they don’t realize the power of its bulletin service or they simply cover their business page in amateur graphics with text that is both unprofessional and corny there is no bigger disservice to yourself as a business person then not using Myspace for all of its great and FREE services. The websites and ideas I have listed above are a very small portion of what is available to you as a business person in this great digital age and I encourage everyone to familiarize yourself with them as well as the other great resources that are now available online.

Very useful information. I think you should also add the importance of spelling and grammar in developing one's brand on the internet. It saddens me to see how many people who claim to be serious about their business(es) misspell simple words and have horrible grammatical errors in the text on their websites, myspace, etc. Standard English is your best friend. Especially if when developing brand and establishing a sense of professionalism to your potential consumers.
