GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) ― A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following an on-duty crash in which another driver was seriously injured.
According to Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino, witnesses said Deputy Robert Moran ran a red light in Garden Grove the morning of June 29 and struck another vehicle. Its driver, 37-year-old Elias Aldana, suffered life threatening injuries. Its passenger and Moran also were taken to a hospital.
Amormino says a Garden Grove police officer at the crash scene detected alcohol on Moran's breath. The 18-year-veteran was arrested and booked.
Moran was released on bail that afternoon and quickly relieved of duty, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
