Some silver lining for the Bolt faithful.

Anyone else notice the eerie similarities happening this season that also took place during the Chargers historic 2006 season, the best winning season in franchise history (14-2) that also saw LaDanian Tomlinson set an NFL record 28 rushing TD's in a single season?

In 2006, the Chargers opened the season at Oakland, the 2nd of two nationally televised MNF games set for that night. This season San Diego once again opens the season at Oakland, the 2nd of two nationally televised MNF games scheduled for that night.

In the days preceding the 2006 season opener against the raiders, Chargers starting OLB Steve Foley was involved in a police shooting that dominated NFL headlines. Like Merriman, Foley was confronted in front of his own home in Poway. Although Foley would never play for the Chargers again, he was ably replaced by current starting OLB Shaun Phillips. The Chargers were lucky to have that level of depth behind their starting LOLB, just as they are now to have Larry English behind Merriman should events play out as Kevin Acee is predicting them.

During that 2006 week one loss, raiders' QB's were sacked nine times. Starting raiders' QB Aaron Brooks wore #2, the same jersey now worn by current raiders starting QB JaMarcus Russell.

As in 2006, the Chargers faced the Ravens in an early season matchup. In that game, the Ravens edged the Chargers 16-13 at Baltimore in week 4, following the Chargers' bye in week 3. This season, San Diego will host the Ravens in week 2 at Qualcomm. In 2006, San Diego also played its' home opener in week 2, recording a 40-7 win over the Tennessee Titans.
