Defenders Should Not Be Penalized For This

I believe it was the Bills vs. Raiders game and the Raiders receiver started casually jogging towards the end zone well before he got there and the Bills defender chasing him tackled him in the end zone and got a penalty for that. I don't think defenders should be penalized for that. If someone starts celebrating before they get into the end zone, the defender should be able to take a shot at him without getting penalized. I can't stand it when they start celebrating before they get into the end zone. After they score, I don't really care, although I'm glad they have put restrictions on excessive end zone celebrations. But if I was a coach, I would tell my players I would never be angry at a penalty for hitting someone in the end zone who starts celebrating before they get there. I would tell them to do it like Adam Sandler did in the waterboy, a jumpkick with both feet to the person's chest. So what, it's a 15-yard penalty on the kickoff. The kicker kicks it out of the end zone and you get it on the 20. But please, act somewhat like a professional and score the touchdown first and then do your celebration.

I agree with thascary1. Higgins slowed down and then sped back up.... so what. They shouldn't have let him score. The dude that tackled Higgins in the end zone is just mad because he got toasted.

You don't see defenders hitting someone that runs all the way to the end zone and then does a big rehearsed dance routine with other teammates. Just the ones who start slowing down, celebrating, and taunting before they get to the end zone. Again, act like a professional and act like you've scored a touchdown before. Run all the way, then celebrate however you want.

Defenders should be able to carry small pocket knives or throwing daggers, imo. Would add to the excitement

So do you think he would have tackled him if he had sprinted all the way into the end zone? Probably not. And I am not talking about this play specifically. I am talking about whenever this penalty occurs. Even though it doesn't occur too often, when it does it is usually because the person who is about to score starts slowing down and celebrating and taunting before reaching the end zone and the defender takes a shot. You don't see this happening when the person sprints all the way to the end zone and then celebrates.
