A Tennessee-based independent label run by a former skincare expert has acquired rap mogul Suge Knight's Death Row Records. Susan Berg's Global Music Group purchased the company for $25 million at auction on Tuesday - and now she owns the rights to unreleased recordings by late rapper Tupac Shakur and other hip-hop gems.

Berg's company beat out heavyweights like Warner Music Group to pick up the company Knight founded in 1991.

As well as Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre once called Death Row Records home before falling out with Knight.

The label was placed into receivership when Knight filed for bankruptcy.

Insiders claim Berg and her Global Music Group partners now own several albums worth of Shakur's music, and it's possible for the label to release a new album of his material later this year.

Celebrating at the BET Awards on Tuesday night, Berg told reporters, "I got the whole f---ing s---."

I don't really think anybody cares who owns "Death Row Records" anymore. Fact of the matter is, I don't know of anybody who cares about any of 2Pac's unheard / unreleased material anymore either (including myself).

For Susan Berg to of bought this label for that amount of money is as crazy as buying a rusted to the core car with no engine and has no potential to ever run right again...if at all.

sorry gemini but you my friend are wrong and you arent seeing the big picture. the publishing alone on the chronic album and snoop first album and the dogg pound first album will pay off the 25 mill over the next 10 years. not to mention all the re-releases and the studio recording required in this deal. if you look at the big picture 25 million for that company is a fucking steal.

my humble 2 pennies.

Yeah, I can see that. Good call (for real), but I still tend to think that everybody has their Cd copies of the "Death Row" era catalog. I speak for myself that I actually went out and re-bought some of those albums to re-add to my collection (as I'm sure alot of ppl have done). Trust me when I say that nobody is intrested in listening to the same ol' verses with tracks that are remixed and labeled the Death Row super duper remix 3000 (or whatever). We don't need another 2Pac album produced by the hottest producer or rapper of 2010. With features that would have never happened in the first place.

I would tend to think with all the downloading and the lack of sales in the music industry today, that this wouldn't be a smart move. Truth be told that the publishings alone is good, but how many times can they flip flop it and re-name it to make another sale? What I'm saying is, the consumer is alot wiser these days and I dare say that anything out of "Death Row Records" will never reach gold (much less platinum) in this lifetime again. Only real money made would have to be from the original albums (which everybody already owns), anything else will seldom move.

naw i mean ogs of shit that hasnt been released, like i think the best thing they could do would be to release those in their OG form, as well as remakes, like have the "real" disc be the remakes or w/e, and a "bonus" disc being all those same songs as OGs

The only thing they have released from Pac is all the throw away verses that they actually decicded not to use at the time due to not being up to par. After is death, they decide to make up to date beats and put all the Pac throw away verses over em' because they think people / the consumers are that desparate to listen to "unreleased Pac songs". I don't think I ever bought another Death Row album since "Better Dayz". That was enough to tell me "stop already". I have actually come to believe there are no more Pac recordings left and if there is, it's completely worthless at this point in time (Game over).

People want O.G. recordings from Death Row, go download the unreleased MC Hammer album "Too Tight" and tell me if you'ed dish out cash thinking you'ed make a profit off those recordings.

As for publishings, I think the Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, RBX, The D.O.C, The Lady Of Rage, M.C. Hammer, DJ Quik etc etc...are still owed royalties for past albums.

I still think Susan Berg bought herself into a suckers deal. After taxes and after all the former Death Row artist get paid for royalties (if they make a move on that), Susan Berg's 25 mill will be more of a credit card used to pay off a huge debt that Suge Knight once owed.
