My mom can also recount the events that transpired during that era pretty vividly.

Most Nicas remember the Somoza years, the 1972 earthquake, the Revolution, and the Sandinista Regime pretty well (all these things affected the whole population in some way or another).....most conversations with older folks end up with debates regarding these same topics.

I despise the use of the word "Nicoya" as a reference to Nicaraguans, especially when it is used by us (Nicoya was an indian chief). The correct term is Nica(s)--short for Nicaraguan--please use it.
