DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A Lauderhill Police Officer is in custody after allegedly firing shots at another officer.
Officer Kristopher Bieger, 30, is behind bars when he allegedly fled the scene after shooting at another officer.
The shooting took place at a Lauderhill strip mall along Inverrary Boulevard and Northwest 56th Avenue, Saturday.
The other officer is a coworker of Bieger and was shot at as she sat in her cruiser working an off-duty detail at a plaza along Oakland Park Boulevard.
Police say at least 10 rounds were fired at the officer.
According to authorities, Bieger drove 15 miles to a Davie pizza restaurant after the shooting. "He came in, order two slices of pizza and then he went outside and on the phone," said a restaurant worker. "A little bit later police called and said, 'Lock the door, run in the back, stay away from the windows.'"
While Bieger made calls on his phone, he alerted others to his location before being caught by a SWAT team.
"We heard gunshots," said witness Donato Dileo. "At first we thought someone hit the glass."
Sources say Bieger and the other officer dated, but recently ended their relationship.
"She's very fortunate to be here but it could have turned out more tragic," said Lauderhill Police Dept. Cpt. Constance Stanley.
Bieger is charged with attempted first-degree murder and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
"It's very nerve racking to tell you the least, to deal with something like this and especially when you are looking into one of your own," said Stanley.
Lauderhill Police Department has suspended Bieger without pay. The department also says Bieger used a personal weapon and not his department issued service weapon.
Bieger is expected in court on Monday.
