Dad Calls Cops on Son to Teach Him a Lesson, Cops Shoot Son Dead

A father's attempt to teach his son a lesson for taking his truck without permission ended in tragedy Monday after a local police officer shot the teenager dead.

James Comstock told the Des Moines Register he called the police on his son Tyler after the latter took the former's truck in retaliation for refusing to buy him cigarettes.

Ames Police Officer Adam McPherson reportedly spotted the lawn care company vehicle and pursued it onto the Iowa State University campus, where a brief standoff ensued after Tyler allegedly refused orders to turn off the engine.

McPherson eventually fired six shots into the truck, two of which struck Tyler who was later pronounced dead.

The official report claims the action was necessary in order "to stop the ongoing threat to the public and the officers."

Tyler's dad says he was unarmed at the time.

"So he didn't shut the damn truck off, so let's fire six rounds at him?" exclaimed Gary Shepley, Tyler's step-grandfather. "We're confused, and we don't understand."

James said his son had his fair share of minor troubles with the law, and was distraught over a recent breakup with his girlfriend, but was in the process of turning his life around, and was working on obtaining his GED at Des Moines Area Community College.

"He was a smart kid. He made his own computers. He was interested in IT," James told the Register.

The family's demands for answers got even louder following the revelation that a member of the Ames police department suggested twice that officers call off the chase.

"He took off with my truck. I call the police, and they kill him," James said. ""It was over a damn pack of cigarettes."

McPherson is currently on paid leave pending the results of his department's investigation.

He didn't even like drive at the cops or anything? Not saying any of it's right but if you try to run over a cop you are probably gonna get shot or at very least shot out but that doesn't even sound like it happened here. Cop that shot him should be brought up on at very least manslaughter charges but we all know that's not going to happen.

Marine shot dead in fight with Palm Springs police
PALM SPRINGS — Two Palm Springs police officers are on paid administrative leave as officials investigate why a Marine was fatally shot early Saturday.

The officers were on routine bicycle patrol about 2 a.m. when they heard a disturbance coming from two vehicles in the downtown parking structure, 275 S. Indian Canyon Drive, according to a Palm Springs police news release.

His name was not released as officials are waiting for the Riverside County Coroner to identify the cause of death and to notify family members.

UPDATE: Cpl. Allan DeVillena II ID'd as Marine killed in Palm Springs (Monday, Nov. 12)

2nd. Lt. Savannah Moyer, public affairs officer with the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton confirmed that a Marine was involved. She said, “A Marine was fatally wounded in an incident yesterday morning.”

The Marine was with the 1st Marine Logistics Group, but the group is not releasing the Marine’s unit until his family has been notified.

Moyer added that the Palm Springs Police Department is investigating the incident and that Marine Corps authorities are “cooperating fully.”

Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff would not say what occurred between the officers and the driver of one of the vehicles, a black Chrysler 300, but it preceded the shooting.

Kovaleff said the two officers fired on the Marine, expelling about four shots.

The Marine was hit by an unknown number of bullets and died at the scene.

The officers, who each have been with the department for nearly five years, were treated at a hospital for unspecified injuries.

Their names also were not released.

A male passenger in the Chrysler was not injured. He was detained for questioning regarding his actions before and during the incident, police said.

The second vehicle left before police arrived and officials are interviewing witnesses, Kovaleff said.

He did not know the second vehicle’s make and model.

Kovaleff said Saturday afternoon other details on the shooting would not be released pending further investigation. Kovaleff told the Desert Sun that more information on this incident will be available to the public Monday, but did not specify a time.

Police closed off the bottom floor of the garage for most of Saturday while forensic experts investigated the shooting. The garage has since reopened.

Shattered glass lay on the ground as the two patrol bikes and four vehicles remained parked nearby.

The owner of one of the vehicles, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, tried to retrieve it about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, unaware that a shooting had occurred.

Scott Davis, 51, left it there the previous night and woke up Saturday worried that it may have been towed away.

The Palm Springs man was relieved it had avoided something worse.

“I’m glad it wasn’t hit by a bullet,” Davis said.

The parking structure sits behind the Village Pub restaurant, which was closing when the shooting took place.

No customers or staff were injured, lead chef George Gonzalez said Saturday afternoon.

He said the garage tends to be busy at about 2 a.m. — closing time — although local bar patrons aren’t the only people there.

“It can be anyone,” Gonzalez said. “It’s normal, like any parking lot.”

Anyone with information may call police at (760) 323-8116.

Holy shit Shea that's fucked in so many ways. Again, what is the fucking urgency with shooting first, asking questions later? Also, if I don't feel I'm posing a threat, why the fuck do u get to shoot me?

Oh he probably disobeyed the cops orders, or "stood up to them" or whatever the fuck excuse some of ya'll will come up with in here.

props to this dude

"So he didn't shut the damn truck off, so let's fire six rounds at him?" exclaimed Gary Shepley, Tyler's step-grandfather.

its not like rap music has been screaming fuck the police for two decades because theyre all just bad people or something, been tryna warn people...of all color and from all places suburbs or hoods, cops will do you dirty

RIP to bruh
Yes, but rap music has a strong liberal bent which only feeds the system that pays cops without holding them accountable. They say fuck the police and then vote to strengthen them.

I don't see anyone saying that and I am going to bet you that very few people, if any, say that.

Part of what separates humans from most animals is being able to control our emotional impulses and cognitively think things through based on logic and reason.

From the information in the article, the cop was 100% in the wrong in this situation. We need to be able to use our brains and evaluate each situation based on it's own set of circumstances.

Every time a cop shoots someone they are not always in the wrong, any more than they are always in the right.
