TROY — A father reported his teenage daughter to police after finding a marijuana plant growing in her bedroom closet, police said.
Troy police said they were dispatched about 11:25 a.m. Oct. 31 to a home on Cheltenham Drive.
The neighborhood is north of Long Lake Road, off Coolidge Highway.
Lt. Michael Lyczkowski said the father led the officers to the bedroom.
Inside the closet was the plant, several grow lights, plant food and a fan, he said.
The father told officers his daughter had placed a lock on her closet to keep her younger siblings from borrowing her clothes, Lyczkowski said.
“For some reason, the parents decided to check on it,” said Lyczkowski, adding that the father discovered his key to the lock didn’t work. “That’s when he found the marijuana growing.”
The daughter wasn’t home at the time of the incident and the matter has been given to the department’s youth bureau for investigation.
Lyczkowski said it is unclear what charges the teen may face, as she is a juvenile and the incident is still under investigation
