currency was made to hold value, and a medium of exchange. an early bartering system could not be effective because stuff (especially food) decays with age, and doesn't hold its value indefinitely. it is hard to get an exact match of what both parties are asking for in a bartering system, because maybe someone doesn't feel his grain is worth 2 chickens, but 2.5 chickens. but how the fuck do u get a 1/2 chicken?

Good point. Plus, bartering on a massive scale probably wouldn't work because there is no uniform system of valuation in bartering.

Money is also part of being LAZY. Who wants to grow thier own food and then kill it prepare it and cook it when you can pay someone to do it for you. Who wants to build thier own house now adays by hand?

Money is also part of UNEDUCATION. Less intelligent people couldnt think of building a boat in those days. You need to pay people to undergo projects to hopefully yield something you could invent yourself.
