Creative SB Live...if this is part of the problem, what can i do to fix this, if it can be fixed...
The SB Live IS your problem. To solve it you're going to have to buy an audio interface that doesn't suck. I'm kinda doubting you need anything big so I'ld just flip like an M-Audio Delta 44 or something. You can probably get them used off ebay for like $50 or something.

I agree with this advice. The SB live is your problem and you're better off getting a new sound card. The reason I asked about your interface is due to the fact different interfaces have different latency times. If you insist on keeping the SB live you can change the settings in cubase sx. The lower the samples (128 ,256) the lower the latency but the more strain on your computer.

delta 44, delta 1010 you can get something cool for under 200 bucks.

The PCI card has a port on the back of it. It comes with a cable that goes from the breakout box to that port. Then you just plug whatever you want to record from into the breakout box.
