I just cant seem to get these two programs to work with each other very well at all. The farthest I've gotten is if i hit play in cubase the reason song will play but I get no MIDI playback if I try to key anything in. I dont understand, everything is on the right channel and my note on is being triggered and in Reason the stuff works fine when its used by itself. I got CUbase so I can someday incoorperate more stuff in my setup but right now without reason the shit is just plain useless to me. I dont even use it and its just a waste on 100 bucks right now till the shit works the way i want it too.

Any suggestions?

you know what I think I got it figured out, it just took a little more messing around with it and it worked, its playback it quieter than it is in reason though, whats up with that?

Reason's engine is actually a bit lower in volume if anything. It's about -3db when compared to other programs. The Reason engine sounds pretty bad and the bad part is that rewiring doesn't even help to bypass the engine.

I know you got that going already but in case it helps you out a bit further. When rewiring Cubase with Reason, Reason would act as a sound module/sampler/synth. Ideally you want to sequence everything in Cubase but you can of course use both and have them sync up automatically.

Don't worry about the playback being quiet for now. Just get the hang of it first. If it really bothers you, you can use a dynamic processor (compressor/limiter) as an insert for a channel or a send if you want it for more than one channel and pull up the perceived volume with some light compression.

I think they might have made reasons sound engine better with the new upgrade if I'm not mistaken, 3dB really isnt all that much anyways when i burn stuff to CD off reason it sounds alot better than the playback in Cubase SE with my cubase mixer at nominal level. With the mastering racks they have on it now, my stuff sounds alot more punchy than it did when i had 2.5. I Was thinking maybe the versain of Cubase I have isn't up to par with Reason I'm not really sure, I dont have any external plug ins or any outboard gear just yet so I guess I'm stuck with what I have. I got Cubase in hopes that I can improve what I have and be able to build up, maybe i should have got SL or SX.

@ Insane Mixican does sequencing Reason through whatever rig you have bypass any dB loss in reasons sound engine for you? I think you said you do alot of your sequencing through Nuendo and an MPC, I was thinking maybe getting a used 2000XL from Ebay or something. I ask since you are an established dude and you seem to like reason and say you use it in alot of stuff.

I'm upping this cuz my question wasn't fully answered, when i rewire into cubase the playback sounds completly like shit, I don't understand why. This isn't from whatever slight Db loss reason may or may not have, it really sounds bad. its so quiet you can't even use it.

Thing is even if i took the cubase mixer all the way up it still isn't nearly as loud as it should be, it completly defeats the purpose of sequencing with it. I'm thinking I have additional computer issues maybe i don't know. I got a decent audio interface, my mixes I make in reason are sounding just fine. Is it just low like that in cubase till you export it or something, I'm learning Logic in school and I'm not seeing nothing like that. My harddrive reciently went bad on me and it had to be replaced, I'm wondering now if other components in my PC also went bad along with the HD??

^^^ I have two computers in the studio. One for music and one for the internet. With the internet computer I encounter a strange problem. I open VLC player, play a file, lower the volume and everything sounds good. I open a different file in real player or windows media player and the volume is low. The volume fader can be as high as it can go but the volume is still low. The culprit? The AUDIO in the sounds and devices keeps getting reset. Go to your control panel and make sure you have the correct settings for playback and recording. Thats a start if you havent already done so.

What you're experiencing does not seem to be something based on PAN LAW. A 3db drop? Thats pan law but what you're experiencing doesn't sound like it.

If you want to learn more about pan law (you use different programs so its a MUST read for you) hit this link.
