Man allegedly goes into LAPD station, threatens officers and leads police in chase
August 5, 2010 | 3:02 pm

Police arrested a man Thursday who allegedly threatened officers inside a South Los Angeles police station before leading them on a nearly half-hour televised chase.

The unidentified suspect was taken into custody by about a dozen LAPD officers around 2:15 p.m. after a chase that began about 1:50 p.m. at the Southwest Area police station in the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, department spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said.

Police said the man walked into the station and said he wanted to kill police officers before running out and getting into his car, Eisenman said.
During the pursuit, the suspect ran through stop signs and red lights. He also drove on a sidewalk and into lanes with oncoming traffic. Two officers were injured in an accident during the chase.

Officers hemmed him in at 37th Street and Normandie Avenue. News footage showed officers breaking the windows of the suspect's vehicle and using a Taser before wrestling him out and onto the ground.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― More than a dozen police officers subdued a rowdy driver after a high-speed chase through Los Angeles streets.

Police spokesman Richard Price said the suspect threatened to "blow away" a police officer at Southwest Station and fled Thursday afternoon.

Officers pursued him as he drove the wrong way on several streets and on sidewalks in South Los Angeles near the University of Southern California.

He hit at least one civilian vehicle and caused a patrol car to collide with a tree.

Price says there are no reports of major injuries to the officer.

Officers eventually pinned the man's car between patrol cars and smashed out the man's back window. The man struggled as officers pulled him out and arrested him.

Relatives say the suspect, Tonsha Wilcher, 38, is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
